Navua soccer team created history in Edmonton Alberta Canada when the team won the Coveted Battle of the Giants Trophy for the very first time at ME LaZerte Grounds yesterday 3rd June.Led by their Captain Adhesh the team dethroned Jet Setters Nadi by 6-1 in the first pool match and went down narrowly to Vatukoula by 3-1 in the second pool game but qualified for the knockout stages. Navua went on to play Delta Tigers Rewa in the semifinals.The game ended in a 2 all draw come full time . During the dreaded penalty shoot out Navua edged out Rewa to qualify for the finals.In the Final Navua took on Blues Lautoka led by Dennis Krishna .The game ended with a 2 all draw . Again it came to the dreaded penalty shootout and Navua came out victorious.Navua soccer President Mr Reshi Deo was on cloud nine after his teams marvellous performance in the knockout stages. Mr Reshi Deo’s first words after the final’YES WE DID IT’Mr Reshi Deo said that he was proud of his team’s achievement.”The Players played with skill and smarts.Communication was excellent. Everyone played to the next level.The coach Krish Chandra kept the team fully engaged with his encouraging words of direction and calming attitude. Starting March 1 motorists will face stricter speed restrictions to better protect roadside workers in Alberta.

Amendments to the Traffic Safety Act passed last spring means that all motorists traveling in the same direction on multi-lane roads will have to slow down to 60 km/h, or the posted speed limit (whichever is lower), when passing any emergency vehicle, tow truck, road crew and snowplow operators with flashing lights.

Currently, the law only requires drivers in the lane adjacent to the roadside to slow to 60 km/h.

Ball retention from kick-offs is a major part of the game that the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s side will try to improve on during the upcoming HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series tournaments in Los Angeles and Vancouver.

The side is without one of its top forwards, Joseva Tabacolo whose aerial ball skills are regarded as phenomenal.

The lanky 6.5ft player is out injured.

Fijian 7s head coach Ben Gollings said they needed to adapt in the kick-off department with the personnel they had.

“When you lose someone like Joseva, who is so good in the air, then you have to adapt with whoever you have,” Gollings said.

“You have got to adapt to the way you tactically play the game.

“We have done that before but we have also added players that we know who can compete so we are excited about that.

“I think the other set piece plays are primarily pretty strong for us.”

Gollings said they needed to retain possession of the ball to put the opposition under pressure.

“I think another key area for us is that we just need to manage the ball and keep the ball,” he said.

“If we keep the ball against teams, then they get under a lot of pressure and it becomes hard for them to stop us with our attacking prowess.”

The LA 7s kicks off this Sunday morning.

Fiji will face Japan in the opening pool game at 7.05am.

The side will then play Kenya at 10.18am with the final pool game against Australia at 2.05pm.

The cup quarter-final will start at 6.45am on Monday followed by the cup semi-final at 10.14am and the cup final at 1.28pm.
