Absolutely blown away by the response to Look Over The Wall, See The Sky. I've been a massive fan of The Quietus for a long time now and I've found some of my favourite music through it, so this is an incredible honour!

'Look Over The Wall, See The Sky' is out now.
It is dedicated to my good friend Daragh Ahearn Clarke. I started to think about this album during a stint living in his house in Howth. I'd be working away trying to come up with arrangements for songs and he'd be chopping a seemingly endless supply of wood out the back wearing fishermen's overalls. He'd come in for a chat and a smoke about ever half an hour until his days chopping was over. By the end of my stay he had completely run out of space to store the wood but I guess he needed a pretty big supply if he was going to get use out of all 4 stoves in the gaff. He loved a good stove!
He loved his friends and he'd do anything for them. A community builder. The man who brought everyone together. The life and soul! He also loved art and was a massive supporter of so many artists and musicians in Ireland. I owe him so much in this regard. Most of all Daragh was an amazing friend and he showed me so much love and support. I miss him very much and consider myself very lucky to have been his friend. This is for Dara Rua.
Big thanks again to all my friend and collaborators who have brought this album to life.

Here we are, delighted with ourselves, at 1am after getting home from a gig last night. That’s the mighty Spud of too - who produced the album with us and has been mixing our gigs this year too. An album teaser with a difference from Ye Vagabonds. Here's the source recording for one of the traditional songs the band has recorded for their new album The Hare's Lament, released on River Lea / Rough Trade Records on March 22. Pre-order here: http://rtrecs.co/TheHaresLament Róise Rua (1879 - 1964) was born near Dungloe, Co. Donegal. After her father died, Róise’s mother moved the family back to her native home on Arranmore Island, where Róise spent most of her life. At 14 she was hired out as a farm hand in Co. Tyrone. She also spent time working in Scotland as a young woman where she met her husband Séamie Mac Grianna. They moved back to a small house in Screag a’ tSeabhac on Arranmore. This was a house of songs and stories, visited regularly by local children, neighbours, friends and singers (including our grandfather Brían). Thankfully, the Folklore Commission recorded her singing in May 1953. She smoked a clay pipe and drank a glass of gin when they recorded her. She is fondly remembered as a kind, caring woman by everyone who knew her. Most of her Irish songs she learned from her mother - a distinct local repertoire including this song Bacach Síol Andaí. She also sang Scottish Gaelic songs that she had appropriated into Irish, and some English songs she learned in Scotland and in the Lagan. Róise had very little and left almost no material possessions behind her. She had no children either. What she did leave were her songs. Thanks to the memories of those who knew her, and the work of the folklorists who recorded her songs, we wont forget this woman. Three songs from our new album were learned from those recordings. This May 17th - 19th we’re helping to organise the first Féile Róise Rua on Arranmore Island - a traditional singing and music festival to honour this great singer.
