It was the early 90’s and it was gospel music night at Six Flags Over Texas. That night we were performing with Minister Daryl Coley. The band was Sean McCurleySteve Da Maéstro LewisArthur DyerMark Harper. I may have forgotten someone. We got there late afternoon to set up and sound check. We did the sound check and got some instructions from Daryl. After he heard the band he was very chill and just wanted to have a good time. I am not sure whose idea it was, I think it was Sean or Steve suggested that we grab a bite to eat. So we did. Then one of those same two said, “Hey let’s go ride the Texas Giant! 👀 I said, “We just ate!” The line was actually very short. I had retired totally from roller coasters, because I had been on the fastest biggest roller coasters from Cedar Point & Magic Mountain. But they said, “You have never been on an old wooden one.” I said, “WHAT??” Awe *>% #€¥! So we get in line and I am already regretting this. We get in the carriage, and start to move. That thing was squeaky, clacking, and sounding like it could not hold our weight. I was soooo mad at myself for saying yes. I thought to myself, “I didn’t bring extra underwear!” As soon as we get to the top, I looked down and started praying! That dip was ridiculous. I was soooo glad when it was over.
We get off and I was like NEVER AGAIN and never have I again. It was very close to down beat. We literally walked from the Texas Giant to our positions on stage. The band was hittin and the choir was amazing. In the middle of the set Daryl pauses and speaks to the crowd. He was always giving encouragement and life lessons. Toward the end of one of his examples he said, “He——will——-make——you——clean” and off we went into the Hekiziah Walker song. It was groovin hard! Just another great moment from my journey.

Back in 1988 The Mac Band opened for EWF at “Star Plex” in Dallas. That was an awesome day. There were a lot of stars at the show because there were lots of shows that week. I was about to walk into our dressing room and one of the guys said, “Clapton is in our dressing room”. I walked in and there was Eric Clapton eating grapes and whatever else was in there. He had just gone to the clean look. This is one of many stories that day. Ray Flippen SrRay McCampbellSlye Fuller

Great pic and I am sure a great event. Nice.

Well, I am up and at it. Getting ready to head to the airport in a few. Had a great time as always in Jackson MS. Concert went extremely well! Saw a lot of longtime friends and spent yesterday with my daughter Lynise Little, her husband Roderick and my two wonderful grandsons! Wish I had more time to hang but got a busy Sunday! Church and then head to Emmitts to do what I do play music.

In the early 90’s I called Bobby Ray Sparks to see if he wanted to go see David Sanborn at The Caravan Of Dreams, and Bobby said yes. I took him and he got to meet the band.

David Sanborn liked to have his moments in the dressing room before the show. It was kinda like time for himself. Earlier that day I told him that my mom was coming to the show and she loved his playing. He said to me, “Bring her by to say hello before the show.” I said, “Really? You like to have that time to yourself.” He said, “I want to meet your mom.” So I took her to meet David, and the first thing out of her mouth, “Can I request Benny tonight?” I said, “mom!” David was like it’s ok but that is not in the show. They talked for a few moments and we left David to get ready. My mom was very happy meeting David Sanborn

The streaming services are robbing music creators! The systems that have been put in place are intended to limit and control our intellectual property. CD’s didn’t get out dated. They got pushed out so that we’d be forced to streaming. Greed is an evil spirit!

Approximately 43 million songs were played across iHeart's 700 stations in 2023, fueling listenership and, in turn, significant advertising revenue. Yet, not a single performing artist was paid for the use of their songs on iHeart's AM/FM stations, nor have they ever been.
