REVIEW: âThe Last Leviathanâ by Anacostia Miller
âMy life ends today. That was the only thought in my mind as the moon shone into my bedchamber from my balcony door.â
I couldnât put this down. A swashbuckling tale of adventure, escape, battles, love and loss. Princess Maeve is escaping a marriage arranged by her father to a horrible man and finds herself a stowaway on a pirate ship. The ship is led by Captain Leviathan, a tough but fair man... and distractingly handsome. The crew takes her in and after seeing her dedication to their lifestyle, treats her like one of their own. The interactions between the crew is so much fun to read. The flirty tension between Mae and Levi had me wanting more. I loved it, from start to finish. A truly fantastic and exciting read.

REVIEW: âSongbird of the Sorrowsâ by Braidee Otto
âI was born dead. Before the gods saw fit to grant me life. Before my mother surrendered her soul to save me.â
This was a great read. I honestly loved everything about it. From the academy setting at the beginning, to the swashbuckling adventures and trials. Aella, the badass female main character, was a treat. Her skills, and her secrets, made her a well-rounded character and her interactions with her friends and âcolleaguesâ were relatable. I absolutely LOVED her friend Nyssa as well, another absolute badass. The descriptions of locations made me want to travel there, even with the perils along the way! This story has it all, and I canât wait for more!

REVIEW: âWoven Songâ by Rachael Krotec
âThe shining orb of vibrant green and blue reflected like a marble in Kaguya-himeâs wide, obsidian-colored eyes, a golden ring of divinity haloing the irises.â
If youâre looking for a story with vivid and in depth descriptions and is basically a love letter to Asian mythology, this is the one. Yuki is such an interesting character - her story and the hidden parts of her give her such depth and you can really feel it as youâre experiencing her story. The beautiful descriptions of the surroundings had me wishing I was there to experience it all in the Technicolor it deserves. A gorgeous read.

Happy Release Day Rachael Krotec!

REVIEW: âFalling in the Blue Hourâ by Kristi Ayers
âMy senses canât help but ignite when Iâm with her. The briny breeze blowing across my skin, droplets of saltwater on my lips, and warm, golden sunrays on my skin. To feel so small in the presence of something so vast and powerful. Itâs the only time I feel truly alive. Thereâs nothing like the ocean.â
This was an adorable and beautiful read. I read it in one night! The vivid descriptions of the surroundings - especially the ocean were wonderful and I really felt like I was there - I could basically feel the wind in my hair and smell the salt in the air. I loved Sam and the way she interacted with the world and the people around her. Her devastation about moving, and some of the events in the story was palpable. I LOVED Nate and Brody too!

REVIEW: âThe Soulburn Talismanâ by David McIlroy
âBrooke Woods was lost in the fog. Really, properly lost.â
A thrilling and eventful adventure story that was wonderful to read. The descriptions of surroundings were vivid and really made it easy to imagine where the characters were and what was happening around them. Brooke, Dale, & Charlie were great characters, I loved reading their story and their growth throughout the book. I found it difficult to follow the POV every so often but it is a great read for lovers of YA, and mid-teens.

REVIEW: âA Sword of Shadow and Deceitâ by Lucinda Dark
âIt is a simple enough practice to distinguish a God from a human.... theyâve never lost their godly appearance.â
This story has such an interesting and exciting premise â Gods in the human world and their mortal children with an interesting magic system. The main characters - Kiera, and the Darkhaven brothers: Ruen, Theos, and Kalix - all have chapters with their points of view so you get to experience all four stories and their thoughts and emotions. Itâs a VERY slow burn, but there is a small amount of pay off. Iâm looking forward to reading more from this world.
It was a great read, but Iâm rating it 4 stars as the detailed descriptions of spiders triggered my arachnophobia so I did struggle reading parts of it.

I read this a while a go and just realised I never posted the review!! Sorry!
REVIEW: âLusting Anonymouslyâ by Mana Jane
âThis story is for those who say âwave that red flag right in my faceâ as they turn the pageâ
Holy s**t, Batman! I read the disclaimer at the beginning, and thought I knew what I was getting myself in for, but holy moly... that was a LOT, haha! This is not a story to read in the presence of others, unless thatâs the point, of course, or you have an impeccable poker face. Read this alone... probably best to be in bed... because well... yeah, thatâs the place... Thereâs not much story, but thereâs LOADS of s**t.

REVIEW: âCold Heartedâ by Leia Stone & Julie Hall
âIâd trained my entire life for this. I was a walking weapon, a lethal force to be reckoned with. Eliminating one man would be easyâ
This was a highly anticipated book for me, and Leia and Julie did NOT let me down. Iâm a sucker for a Fae romance, enemies to lovers and forbidden love - and this has it all. Dawn and Zander were a treat to read and their story was full of the ups and downs, and, of course, tension that I love. Dawn is a strong, independent princess who needs no man (literally as sheâs there to kill one) but sheâs not above accepting help if she needs it, which Iâm thankful for - Iâm not a fan of the whole âI donât need help so Iâm going to go out of my way to make sure I donât accept helpâ thing. Zander was a huge flirt, but I loved that it was played as just part of his personality and he never pushed the boundaries too far. They were a great pair to read and suited each other perfectly. The world and lore is interesting and I canât wait for more!
âââââ
I just realised I never posted this review! I'm so sorry!
REVIEW: âThe Musician and the Monsterâ by
âMusic says things words never can. I love you. I miss you. Iâm sorry I killed youâ
I loved this story. It was the second Beauty and the Beast retelling I read this month and they were both so different. This story held me captive from the very beginning, until the very end. It was such an interesting concept and I loved the characters - Ceridwen and Drystan and their family and friends were compelling and easy to fall in love with. A beautiful read.

REVIEW: âVeiled in Stars and Silverâ by J. Ann Curtis
âBut she hadnât seen Peter Pan since the day theyâd returned. Not once.â
Apart from a huge dad crush on Jason Isaacs, I never thought Iâd be rooting for James Hook as a love interest... well this book made me do just that. Because... well phwoaw!
I LOVED seeing a super badass Wendy take control of situations, and the twists & turns throughout had me enthralled - I read it in 2 days! A great twist on the story of Peter Pan and Neverland!

I'm planning a reading retreat for mid-next year and I'd love to know what you want from a retreat of that kind.
As a reader, do you just want a dedicated space to relax and read, with meals and snacks?
Or do you want that, and some activities - like an author talk, relaxation activities (like meditation, massages etc), and maybe a day tour of some kind (wineries maybe? I'm thinking maybe Margaret River at this stage)
Also - what's the ideal duration you'd like for something like this?
Thanks! Any info is helpful to make sure it's a retreat that you all want :)
I haven't done a 'get to know me' post yet really, I saw this little trend going around so I thought why not give it a go too.
Let me know how much we have in common? 300 points in total â¤
I'm pretty mainstream I think - possibly stereotypical Millennial lol Can't wait to see what we have in common!
IT IS MY BIRTHDAY!
It's been a great couple of months since starting this bookstagram, and it has been so much fun so far. Thank you all for making it easy to keep going! You're all awesome!
