This East Side News and commentary for New York's East Side News, commentary, and community for New York's East Side. We have opinions which we won’t keep to ourselves.

This East Side was, as they say, “born yesterday.” It was created to fill a serious gap in coverage of the Upper East Side and Midtown East, not just as destinations, but as neighborhoods. We cover the “waterfront,” from Fifth Avenue to the East River — from Yorkville to Sutton Place. And we are here to serve all the people with news and comment on culture, crime, fun, food, real estate, shopping

and even the great outdoors (of which there’s a good deal). And we hope the neighbors will join the conversation. Contact us anytime at [email protected]

Frankly, if “the Sussexes” were sitting next to me, eating pizza at Mediterraneo, I wouldn’t even look up. Their “near catastrophic” experience on the UES was a nice bit of PR BS, evoking the tragic death of Harry’s mother. We have near-catastrophic experiences almost every day, what with the bikes on the sidewalk and everything with wheels speeding through red lights.

The initial description of the episode in Midtown Manhattan recalled the chase that killed Harry’s mother, but the fuller picture was more complicated.

We knew this about the Upper East Side. More could have been said however about the stability provided by the cultural institutions and legacy retail.

Red-head duck? Terrapin in sherry? Relive an "Absolutely fireproof Thanksgiving" at the long-gone Park Avenue Hotel.

Thanksgiving, 122 years ago at the long-gone Park Avenue Hotel. Several things on the menu jump out. Firstly, of course, the sort of offerings we don’t see much these days. There’s Clear Green Turtle Soup and also the turtle itself, Diamond-back Terrapin in Amontillado Sherry. Gosling? That’s ...

Moynihan Station, calm before the travel storm. Admire the top-bearing trusses, lit up a pretty pink. A truss is a structural member that bears weight. The zig-zaggy things evenly distribute the weight of the roof, which we imagine is quite a lot.
