When you don’t have a cent in your pocket, can’t leave your kids or loved ones to live in the city, when you know no one in the film & tv industry but you have passion & drive & talent
All courses have been free because I’ve been there, as many of us have. Without support it’s difficult to work in this industry. It’s demanding & exhausting and exhilarating & fulfilling & as a free lance director, it has taken years to keep in regular employment but I still worry about the next pay check. I’ve been incredibly lucky to know & work with some amazing people who have given me their trust & have created opportunities for me to continue to work in the industry. Paying it forward, we invited talented and sound industry experts to join our writers to give a Masterclass as part of Wexford Writers Scripting For Broadcast Academy - and they came to Wexford, GSU building (formerly old courthouse). Thank you John Yorke for your outstanding Masterclass, super talented director Diarmuid Goggins (Kin, Bulletproof) for your insight, first class mentor/tutor throughout the year & excellent human being, Paul Walker .walker.16906 for joining me on the panel discussion. Thank you Gareth Lee from Screen Skills Ireland and Andrew Byrne for an exciting overview of national training and funding available, the Talent Development Academy & future ambitions for our industry moderated by fantastic course coordinator & producer . The three powerhouses & without whom would not exist .burns.3781 Wexford Arts Officer, Liz H**e, Head of Economic Development and our amazing Film & TV Coordinator Linda Curtin .anna.jones.17. Thanks to producer extraordinaire. For filming who was with us in spirit ❤️ All Passionate people supporting our writers on their journey - helping to demystify roles in film & tv, identifying avenues and pitfalls as they embark on careers for screen, helping us build an indigenous industry here in Wexford Town. 🎥❤️

This year, the theme for International Women’s Day (8 March), “Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world,” celebrates the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and highlights the gaps that remain.

Women of the world want and deserve an equal future free from stigma, stereotypes and violence; a future that’s sustainable, peaceful, with equal rights and opportunities for all.

To get us there, the world needs women at every table where decisions are being made.

UN Women is working to provide support to all women on the front lines of the fight against this pandemic; promoting flexible working arrangements; and prioritizing services to prevent gender-based domestic violence.

Now you, too, can help them.

We’d like to thank everyone who submitted their work to the Wexford Writers Scripting For Broadcast Academy.

We were delighted that the volume and quality of the submissions were extremely high and we had a difficult time narrowing down the scripts from 64 submissions to a shortlist of 20 applicants.

We’re delighted to tell you that all applicants will be informed next week if they have made it to the short list of 20 writers.

We wish we could provide a place for everyone, as there is no shortage of writing talent in Wexford. Unfortunately we only have 10 places available.

This is only the beginning of a new chapter of filmmaking across County Wexford.
