Few people are willing to admit the sheer volume of information that they forget on an average day. It’s a silent competition, riddled with embarrassment and whose prize is the illusion of infallibility, perpetuating the myth that flawless memory equates to personal worth or competence.
We are certainly the victors, but who will ever know that the truth is we are human and this is what humans do extraordinarily well, almost unbearably so. Well now, it’s time to step down from your throne of lies and embrace the truth because, to your luck, it turns out that (non-pathological) forgetting is not only good, it’s necessary.
