🎉 Happy Birthday to the one and only Snoop Dogg! 🎉
On October 20th, Calvin Broadus, better known as Snoop Dogg, celebrates another year as a living hip-hop legend. Let’s take it back to 1992, a pivotal year when the world was first introduced to Snoop’s unmistakable style and flow.

Here’s a story that helped shape his rise:

🔙 1992: The Breakout Year
Before Snoop became the iconic rap figure we know today, he was just a young MC trying to make it in the game. That all changed when Dr. Dre discovered him through a mixtape. At the time, Dre was fresh off his departure from N.W.A. and working on his solo debut album The Chronic. Dre was instantly drawn to Snoop’s laid-back, melodic flow and smooth voice.

Snoop was featured on Dre’s “Deep Cover”, his first major recording, for the soundtrack to the 1992 film of the same name. This track was a turning point—it was Snoop’s introduction to the masses, and his verse alongside Dre’s cemented their chemistry.

Snoop has mentioned in interviews that when he first met Dr. Dre, he was extremely nervous and unsure of his potential. In fact, Snoop would later recall how he felt like he wasn’t ready and was even hesitant to go to the studio with Dre. But Dre saw something in him and kept encouraging him to push forward. Snoop eventually found his confidence, and that meeting would go on to create one of hip-hop’s most legendary collaborations.

Not long after, Snoop would play a central role on Dre’s The Chronic, which came out later that year. Tracks like "Nuthin’ But a 'G' Thang" introduced Snoop’s signature West Coast sound to the world. His laid-back flow, witty wordplay, and undeniable charisma set him apart from anyone else at the time. It’s no exaggeration to say that The Chronic and Snoop’s contributions helped reshape the landscape of hip-hop, especially for the West Coast.

From that moment on, Snoop was on a meteoric rise to stardom, and the rest is history!

The one and only Eazy-E dropped his classic EP, It’s On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa, taking aim at his former N.W.A. bandmate, Dr. Dre, and delivering raw West Coast vibes like only Eazy could!

This project showed Eazy’s ruthless energy and his unapologetic style, cementing his legacy as one of the pioneers of gangsta rap. Whether he was sending disses or delivering street anthems, this EP left a lasting mark on hip-hop.

Eazy-E’s It’s On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa was more than just a musical release—it was a direct response to the drama and division within N.W.A., one of the most influential groups in hip-hop history. After the group's breakup, tensions between Eazy-E and Dr. Dre escalated, particularly after Dre left Ruthless Records to form Death Row Records with Suge Knight.

The animosity between Eazy and Dre was personal and business-related, and it boiled over into the music. Dr. Dre's debut solo album The Chronic (1992) featured the infamous track "Dre Day," where Dre and his protégé Snoop Dogg threw heavy shots at Eazy, mocking him and his management style at Ruthless.

In response, Eazy-E fired back with It’s On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa in October 1993. The most notable track on the EP, "Real Muthaphuckkin G's," directly disses Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, painting Dre as a “studio gangster” who wasn't as tough as he portrayed himself. The track is relentless, with Eazy showing that he wasn’t backing down from any conflict. The accompanying music video for "Real Muthaphuckkin G's" also featured images of Dre’s early days in his World Class Wreckin' Cru outfit, highlighting the contrast between Dre's new gangsta image and his past.

What made It’s On such a significant release was not only Eazy’s biting lyrics, but the fact that Eazy was proving that he was still a force to be reckoned with despite Dre’s newfound fame. The EP itself was successful, going double platinum, and "Real Muthaphuckkin G's" became an anthem, especially for fans who sided with Eazy in the feud.

In the bigger picture, this release is a snapshot of one of the most intense beefs in hip-hop history, and it underscored the growing divide between the old guard of West Coast rap (represented by Eazy) and the new era led by Dr. Dre and Snoop. Even though the beef was fierce, it ultimately created some of the most memorable diss tracks and moments in hip-hop’s golden age.

Eazy-E remained a symbol of raw, unfiltered street rap until his untimely passing in 1995. It’s On captures the essence of that era and is still remembered for its unapologetic approach to addressing the rivalry in the West Coast rap scene.

🔑 Key Tracks:

“Real Muthaphuckkin G’s” – A legendary diss track aimed at Dr. Dre, featuring Eazy at his hardest, backed by a menacing beat.
“Any Last Werdz” – Eazy’s signature laid-back flow over a funky, G-funk-infused production.
“Gimme That Nutt” – A classic Eazy track blending humor, slick rhymes, and that West Coast bounce.
“Boyz N Tha Hood (G-Mix)” – The revamped version of his N.W.A. hit, bringing that signature street storytelling to new heights.
💣 Production Highlights:

The EP was filled with booming basslines and sharp West Coast beats, courtesy of producers like Rhythm D.
G-funk elements were prominent, but Eazy brought a grittier, darker edge to the sound, making it one of the standout projects of the era.

MF DOOM dropped his iconic debut solo album, Operation: Doomsday!

The masked villain emerged from the shadows with a sound that changed the underground forever. DOOM's genius was on full display, blending comic book storytelling, intricate wordplay, and mind-bending production.

🔑 Key Tracks:

“Doomsday” – DOOM’s lyrical mastery over a smooth Sade sample sets the tone for the album’s villainous persona.
“Rhymes Like Dimes” – A fan favorite! DOOM’s punchlines hit hard over a playful and bouncy beat.
“Dead Bent” – A rugged track with DOOM spitting over a slick Roy Ayers sample, showcasing his raw delivery.
“?” (feat. Kurious) – A collaboration that brings sharp back-and-forth rhymes over one of DOOM’s trippy productions.
🎧 Production Highlights:

DOOM handled most of the production himself, layering obscure samples from jazz, soul, and even old cartoons to create his signature sound.

His sampling techniques were ahead of their time, pulling from artists like Sade, The Beatles, and Roy Ayers, transforming their work into something entirely fresh and unpredictable.
