By now you should have all heard our latest release, so today we spoke to the one and only Bahar Canca herself, who shed some light on the inspiration behind her moving lyrics for London Town! 🇬🇧

“London played a massive role in who I am right now.. it 100 percent inspired and deeply shaped my music and my journey as an artist, over the years that I spent there. I moved from Turkey to London at the tender age of 18!

London has so much diversity, you can meet people from all walks of life, it has the best parties and so many kinds of electronic music.. all of which you need to survive and thrive in such a big and busy city. There is also an audience for what ever genre and style you going for, which gives such freedom of expression when creating and playing music!

The lyrics for ‘London Town’ explain life there through my eyes.. touching on the great vibes and great opportunities of big city life, but also how it can collectively be challenging and hard on us. It can bring a sense of loneliness, even when in crowds, light pollution can hide the stars away.. But at the same time London brings people together from all kinds of backgrounds, and together they create the magic and lure of London.
That’s what inspired me to write London Town, all the contrasts, juxtapositions and dualities.. The light and dark, love and hate, feeling disconnected yet connected.
Life in London means working hard, and more importantly.. playing hard.”

We are thrilled to announce the long awaited official release date for London Town! Get your party shoes ready, speakers cranked up and save this special date!

The original ‘London Town’ collaboration was produced by Matt Williams and in 2011, however it was archived due to not being ‘in tune’ with Bahar’s musical tastes and style at the time... but now this musical love letter to London is ready to be shared with the world!

Well received by fans on many a dance floor since its original conception, this catchy deep house number will have you snapping your fingers from the get-go. Soulful and uplifting, mixed with a tinge of torment, ‘London Town’ aims to recruit kindred spirits - maybe culturally diverse but on the same frequency.

‘London Town’ generates mixed emotions - ‘I love you, I hate you!’ It is on par with how many people - London-dwellers and tourists alike - feel about the wonderful but often exasperating city. A profound point in time captured by Bahar Canca when she wrote the stirring lyrics and delivered with raw intensity by Phil Ramacon’s sultry vocals.

Fast forward to the current day and Bahar has embossed her talent (again) with ‘Bahar’s 2023 edit’. Catchier, and as you would expect, tighter than the original version, it draws on Bahar’s substantial experience developed over the years, and obviously newer technology, to enrich ‘London Town’ and expand its appeal.

An edgy remix by echoes the sentiments originally expressed and entices even the shyest toetappers to the dancefloor. Fans will need to decide for themselves which version they prefer, if they must, and indeed it may just come down to the time and place. Of course, that place will most likely be ‘London Town’.

So plug into ‘London Town’, let your mind drift, and feel the love expressed in this tender track.. There’s a very good reason so many people live in London.. ‘This IS the place!’

Introducing Alex W Marx, the legend behind London Towns fantastic new remix! 🔥🔥🔥

Alex was born and raised in Turkey, but has slowly transitioned to life further afield in sunny Ibiza, where he now resides.
He stepped behind the decks and began djing around 2002, but later started producing his own music in 2018. This lead to him strengthening and giving life to the music romping around in his head, finding joy in implementing his own ideas and favouring the combination of electronic sound with progressive bass.
Alex has released tracks with Sudam records, Plur and Headcutsrecords to name a few.
His sound resonates with those ready to hit the dance floor to the best electronic beats and his edgy new remix will be sure to entice even the shyest toetappers to get up and boogie..

Love Letters to London! In the run up to the London Town release, we asked our label manager Pippa Roikonen about life there in the big city...

So Pippa, how long have you lived in ol'London Town?

Well.. I’m actually a born and bred Londoner, est. 1990! Both my parents grew up in İslington and I was there up until last September, but I currently now reside under bluer skies in beautiful Antalya.

What was life like growing up there?

London back then was a lot safer, and had more of a feel of community. We knew our neighbours, we played on the streets and left our doors unlocked! It had more heart and and it had more soul. And like most of us Londoners, it’s been hard for me to watch my city change into a playground for the rich. So much has changed, but growing up there was priceless.

What is or was your favourite London venue?

Ooh, The Lord Napier, Hackney Wick. It’s sadly now a fancy gastro bar but when I was around 18 it was an abandoned pub, taken over by squatters and filled with the reckless youth of London up until the late 2000's. Hackney Wick back then was an absolute ghost town, not a fancy coffee shop or ‘affordable’ new-build in sight.. The music was great, their system was loud, and it got so hot in there that the ceilings used to drip with sweat.. the perfect dirty squat rave.

And your weirdest London memory?

I once saw a pigeon eating a discarded chicken nugget, in a graffiti filled tunnel at 4am.. it was the most London thing I’ve ever seen.

Favourite month there?

August... Carnival baby! That long awaited, possibly sunny, possibly not, balmy bank holiday weekend - where we fill the streets of Notting Hill with colour, good food, better music and expensive pee's in strangers bathrooms.

Why did you make the move to Antalya?

I fell in love with the mountains here, and more than that, the people. I found a warmth here, the community vibe I felt lacking in London, along with a slower pace of life, that allows me more time for creativity, social connection and growing vegetables!

And tell us, what makes London the place for you?

it's where so many of the people I love live. 🧡💛🧡

In the run up to the London Town release we thought it would be fun to ask a couple of our favourite Londoners about life in the big city! 🌟

First up is long time london dweller DJ 💚

So, how long have you lived in the big city?

Since 94. I am a survivor 😛

What were your first impressions, and why did you chose to stay?

I discovered electronic music and warehouses parties. I worked hard, partied harder for about 10 years none-stop. I was simply having too much fun so couldn’t leave.

In Bahars track, she features the lyrics ‘I love you, I hate you’ when writing about our crazy city, a sentiment that many well seasoned Londoners would agree with.. what would you describe as the pros and cons of living there?

There is only one London. But, it is very challenging to live in a city that is mostly grey with little sunshine. It can be depressing. Majority of the people just work to live due to how expensive it is. Perhaps that’s why we party so much, it keeps us going. I totally resonate with the lyrics.

What’s your favourite London venue?

Currently I love The Fold. I used to love Turnmills in Farringdon before they shut it down to turn into housing for the rich. Typical London behaviour!

And your weirdest London memory?
Got stuck on London Underground train, Metropolitan Line returning from a party. After a 1.5 hours journey , I wet myself in front of Wembley Park Station. Weird enough !?

How has living there impacted or influenced your life?

Like the lyrics ‘ I love it, I hate it’

It’s a gorgeous sunny Sunday afternoon in London, what’s your ideal plan for the day?

I absolutely love London when it’s sunny. Regents Park is my favourite or maybe a boat party on the Thames.

If you could sum it up in a couple words, what makes London ‘the place’ to you?

The freedom it offers and my friends in it.
