On Tuesday, July 23rd at approximately 6:20p, the Roslyn Rescue and Roslyn Highlands Fire Companies were dispatched to a report of smoke in the basement on Trundle Ct in Old Westbury. Multiple Chiefs from both departments were quickly on scene along with Highlands Engine 592 & Quint 598 and began investigating a confirmed smoke condition in the area of the basement pool. After a brief search, fire was found in the walls and ceiling of the basement and a Signal 10 was transmitted. With a line already in place, crews quickly knocked down the main body of fire with an additional 2 lines being stretched througout the operation. With the assistance of crews from Jericho, Mineola, Carle Place, Westbury and Sea Cliff, extensive overhaul was conducted to completely extinguish the fire which was placed under control in approximately 1 hour under the Direction of Highlands Chief of Department Unger [5900]. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Sunday, July 21st at approximately 1:10pm, the Roslyn Rescue and Roslyn Highlands Fire Companies were dispatched to a report of smoke in the house on Saddle Ridge Rd in Old Westbury. Rescue Chief of Department Collura [5600] along with multiple Rescue & Highlands units were quickly on the road and while en route, Highlands Engine 592 advised they had a column of smoke visible from a distance. Upon arrival of Chief Collura, a Signal 10 was transmitted and immediately upgraded to a 2nd alarm with fire through the roof of the large mansion. Crews stretched the first line off E592 to begin attacking the fire while a relay pumping operation was setup with an approximate 1/4 mile stretch down the long driveway. After an aggressive interior attack with fire continuing to spread through the 2nd floor and attic, crews were backed out of the building and multiple master streams and hand lines were placed into operation to continue to attack the fire which was subsequently upgraded to a 3rd alarm. With the assistance of mutual aid from Carle Place, Jericho, Mineola, Westbury, Glenwood, Albertson, Syosset, Glen Cove, Sea Cliff, Williston Park, East Norwich, and New Hyde Park, crews operated on scene for over 2.5 hours before the fire was placed under control. Crews continued to conduct overhaul and extinguish hot spots for an additional 2 hours before all units were released from the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Wednesday, July 17th at approximately 2:15p, the South Farmingdale Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire on Cinque Dr. First arriving units found fire on the 2nd floor of the house and a Signal 10 was transmitted. Farmingdale E923 was first due along with Bethpage Ladder 3 and crews worked together to locate the main body of fire and stretch the initial line. In total 3 lines were stretched and placed into operation with the assistance of crews from Massapequa, North Massapequa, Seaford, and East Farmingdale. The fire was placed under control in approximately 45 minutes under the direction of First Assistant Chief McFarlane. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Friday, July 5th, just after 4:30p, the Williston Park Fire Department was dispatched to an MVA with entrapment at the intersection of Willis Ave and Meadowsweet Rd. 1st Assistant Chief Vulpis [8601] and Chief of Department Pascale [8600] both quickly arrived on scene finding a multi-car MVA with multiple injured and 1 trapped in the vehicle. Engine 863 quickly arrived on scene and put the tool to work extricating the patient in approximately 5 minutes. At least 4 patients were transported to local hospitals by NCPD EAB & Northwell EMS in unknown conditions.

On Thursday, July 4th at approximately 10:20p, the New Hyde Park Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire on South 12th St. Upon arrival of the first due units, an extinguished fire was found along the side of the house and garage. While crews were overhauling the side of the house and checking for extension, fire was found along the roofline and a Signal 10 was transmitted. Crews quickly knocked down the remaining fire before continuing to conduct over haul. With the assistance of crews from West Hempstead, South Floral Park and Mineola, the fire was quickly placed under control under the direction of Chief of Department Barbagallo [1700]. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Saturday, June 29th, the Hicksville Fire Department held a wetdown for the new Engines 933, 934, and 937. Assigned to Citizens Engine Company 3, Volunteer Hose Company No.4, and Engine Company No. 7, respectively, the 3 new engines are all 2023 Sutphen Monarch 2000/500 setup to be nearly identical to in operation and layout. After a brief ceremony including a blessing of the apparatus, and a champagne bottle break on each engine, the 3 new engines were wetdown by apparatus from other Hicksville companies and neighboring departments to celebrate the new engines. Congratulations to all 3 companies and the Hicksville Fire Department on their new apparatus!

On Saturday, June 15th at approximately 09:45a, the Hempstead Volunteer Fire Dept was dispatched to a reported house fire on Front St. First arriving units encountered fire out the rear of the house and a Working Fire was transmitted. Engine 4 was first due and stretched the initial line to begin extinguishing the fire. Upon initial searches, fire was found to have extended to the upper floors of the home and at least 3 lines were stretched and placed into operation to extinguish the main body of fire. With the assistance of crews from West Hempstead, Uniondale, Rockville Centre, South Hempstead and Baldwin, the fire was placed under control in approximately 45 minutes with extensive overhaul conducted on all floors. All operations were under the direction of Chief of Department Rugg [80]. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Wednesday, June 12th, at approximately 11:55p, the Hempstead Volunteer Fire Dept was dispatched to a reported house fire on Laurel Ave. First arriving units found heavy fire in a 2 story house and a Working Fire was transmitted. Engine 4 was first due and began an initial interior attack, stretching 2 hand lines before the decision was made to transition to a defensive operation with fire on all floors and out the rear of the house. Crews stretched additional hand lines and utilized master streams from Harper Hook & Ladder Company #1, Eagle Engine Company One and Truck 4 Uniondale Fire Department to extinguish the main body of fire. Crews operated on scene for approximately 2.5 hours with the assistance of mutual aid from West Hempstead, Baldwin, Rockville Centre, Uniondale and South Hempstead. All operations were under the direction of 1st Assistant Chief Fitzroy [81]. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Sunday, June 9th at approximately 6:30p, the Jericho Fire Department was dispatched to a reported stove fire on 17th St. Taking up from an MVA, Chief of Department Foresto [9401] and 2nd Assistant Chief Richardson [9403] along with Engine 943 were quickly on scene finding smoke showing from the 2nd floor of a Garden Apartment and a Signal 10 was transmitted. Crews stretched the initial line off of E943 and quickly knocked down the fire located in the kitchen of the apartment. With the assistance of crews from Westbury, Syosset and Hicksville, overhaul was conducted before the scene was placed under control in approximately 20 minutes.

On Tuesday, June 4th at approximately 2:10p, the Mineola Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire on Greentree Rd. Engine 162 was quickly on the scene finding smoke showing from the house and a Signal 10 was transmitted. The initial line was stretched off Engine 162 while the crew of Truck 168 worked to locate the fire which was found on the 2nd floor of the house. The fire was quickly extinguished by the crew of E162 with overhaul and ventilation conducted by crews on scene. With the assistance of mutual aid from Williston Park, Garden City, East Williston and Carle Place, the fire was placed under control in approximately 20 minutes. All operations were under the direction of Lieutenant McCann.

On Saturday, June 1st, the Bayville Fire Company held a wetdown and dedication ceremony for the new Engines 501 & 503. The new Engines 501 and 503 are 2022 Spartan Metrostar 1500/750 engines replacing the former Engine 501, a 1988 Spartan Gladiator/FMC and Engine 503, a 1993 RD Murray. Placed into service in early 2023, both engines have been serving the community over the last year as the new front-line apparatus for the fire company. After a brief ceremony led by Chief of Department Caso, the new twin engines were blessed with a ceremonial champagne break by the members of the truck committee before being wetdown by neighboring departments including Locust Valley, Glenwood, and Atlantic Steamers. Congratulations to Bayville on their new apparatus!

On Thursday, May 30th at approximately 7:15a, the North Bellmore and East Meadow Fire Departments were dispatched to a reported car fire at the intersection of Newbridge Rd & 7th Ave. First arriving units from East Meadow found a confirmed car fire at the intersection of Newbridge Rd & 5th Ave in North Bellmore’s district. Engine 656 was first due and stretched a line to extinguish the vehicle fire with the assistance of East Meadow Engine 612. Crews operated on scene for approximately 30 minutes before being released. All operations were under the direction of 1st Assistant Chief Capuano [6501].

On Sunday, May 19th, Hose Company 2 of the Baldwin Fire Department held a wetdown for the new Engine 202. Placed into service in November of 2023, the new Engine 202 is a 2023 Spartan Gladiator 1500/500 replacing the former Engine 202 (now spare Engine 2022), a 2001 Spartan/RD Murray. After a brief ceremony and remarks from various company and department officials, the new 202 was first christened by a celebratory champagne break before being wet down by fellow Baldwin companies and neighboring departments. Congratulations to Hose Company 2 and the Baldwin Fire Department on their new apparatus!

On Thursday, May 16th at approximately 7:30, the Mineola Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported garage fire on Windsor Ct. 1st Assistant Chief Strauss [1601] was quickly en route and transmitted a Signal 10 with multiple calls being received by Firecom a visible column from a distance. Upon arrival, Chief Strauss found fire showing from a commercial garage. Engine 162 was first due and stretched the first line to the doorway of the building to begin extinguishing the fire while truck companies worked to cut the roll down gates. At least 2 lines were stretched and placed into operation to extinguish the fire with the assistance of crews from Williston Park, Garden City, Westbury, Carle Place and East Williston. Crews operated on scene for over an hour conducting overhaul and ventilation operations before crews were released from the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Unit 6155 quickly arrived on scene and advised Chief of Department Walsh [6100] of a possible attic fire and upon arrival of Chief Walsh a Signal 10 was transmitted. Engine 614 was first due and stretched the initial line to begin extinguishing the fire. 3 lines were stretched with 2 placed into operation to extinguish the fire which was placed under control in approximately 30 minutes with the assistance of Westbury as a FAS Team. On Saturday, May 4th just after 1:30p, the Plainview Volunteer Fire Department began receiving multiple calls for a reported building fire on Old Country Rd. 2nd Assistant Chief Schatzberg [9503] was quickly on the road and was advised by dispatch that a member on scene was reporting a fire on the roof. 1st Assistant Chief Cohen [9502] was first to arrive on scene and transmitted a Signal 10 with active fire on the roof of the Safeguard Self Storage facility. Engine 956 was first due and utilized the standpipe to begin extinguishing the fire on the roof. At least 2 hand lines were stretched and placed into operation on the roof while crews setup multiple tower ladders for master stream operations. Mutual aid was requested to the scene from Bethpage, Farmingdale, Syosset, Melville, Hicksville, Westbury, East Farmingdale, Levittown and Jericho to assist with firefighting operations. The main body of fire was knocked down in approximately one hour with crews continuing ventilation and overhaul. All operations were under the direction of Chief of Department Mayrose [9501]. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Thursday, April 18th just before 8p, the Roslyn Rescue and Roslyn Highlands Fire Companies were dispatched to an unknown type fire at the Town of North Hempstead Transfer Station on West Shore Rd. Rescue Chief of Department Collura [5600] and 2nd Assistant Chief Kern [5602] were quickly on scene and transmitted a Signal 10 with a large amount of fire visible within the transfer station. After an initial search, the fire was identified to be in a large pile of rubbish and crews stretched at least one hand line to begin extinguishing the fire while Tower Ladder 565 and a master stream were setup. After the bulk of the fire was extinguished, crews utilized a payload to overhaul the rubbish pile and completely extinguish the fire. After approximately 75 minutes, the fire was placed under control with the assistance of crews from Port Washington, Glenwood and a FAST from Mineola. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Monday, April 15th at approximately 5:30p, the Hempstead Volunteer Fire Dept was dispatched to a reported house fire on Hamilton Pl. First arriving units found active fire on the 2nd floor of a 2 1/2 story house and a Working Fire was transmitted. Engine 3 and Ladder Co. 2 were first due, locating the fire on the 1st and 2nd floors and placing the initial line into operation to begin extinguishing the main body of fire. At least 3 lines were stretched and placed into operation to extinguish the fire with the assistance of crews from West Hempstead, Baldwin, Rockville Centre, and Uniondale. The fire was placed under control in approximately 45 minutes under the direction of Chief of Department Joyce [80]. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Wednesday, April 10th at Approximately 3:40p, the Glenwood H&L, E&H, Co., Inc. was dispatched to a reported motorcycle fire in the basement of a house on The Promenade. 2nd Assistant Chief McGillicuddy [5302] was quickly on scene finding smoke showing from the house and transmitted a Signal 10 with active fire in the basement. Quint 533 was first due and stretched the initial line to quickly knock down the main body of fire in the basement. In total, 2 lines were stretched and placed into operation with the assistance of crews from Sea Cliff, Roslyn, Glen Cove, and Atlantic Steamer. Overhaul and secondaries were conducted by crews finding no extension to the upper floors of the house. The fire was placed under control in approximately 45 minutes under the direction of Chief of Department Greig [5300].

Chief of Department DiFronzo [9301] was quickly on scene and transmitted a Signal 10 for fire on the 1st floor of a 2-story private dwelling. Engine 932 was first due and stretched the initial line to begin extinguishing the fire. In total, 2 lines were stretched and placed into operation to extinguish the main body of fire. With the assistance of crews from Bethpage, Levittown, East Meadow, and Plainview, the fire was placed under control in approximately 20 minutes. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Wednesday, March 27th at approximately 7:15p, the Carle Place Fire Dept was dispatched to a reported overturn at the intersection of Parkway Dr and Karen Ct. Rescue 912 was quickly on scene finding a vehicle on its side with the driver still within. Crews worked alongside NCPD to extricate the patient through the windshield and transferred the patient to a Nassau County Police Ambulance for transport to a local hospital. All operations were under the direction of 2nd Assistant Chief W. Geddish.

On Monday, March 18th at approximately 8:50p, the Lakeview Fire Department was dispatched to a report of smoke from the basement on Pinebrook Ave. 1st Assistant Chief Senti [4101] quickly arrived on scene and transmitted a Signal 98 with smoke showing and upon searches, a Signal 10 was transmitted with active fire in the basement of a 2-story house. Engine 413 was first due and stretched the initial line to begin extinguishing the main body of fire. In total, 2 lines were estrretkched and placed into operation with the assistance of crews from Rockville Centre, Lynbrook, West Hempstead, and Lawrence-Cedarhurst. The fire was quickly placed under control in approximately 30 minutes under the direction of Chief of Department Joyce [4100]. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Engine 2 was first due and stretched the initial line to begin extinguishing the fire. At least 2 lines were stretched and placed into operation to extinguish the main body of fire with the assistance of crews from West Hempstead, Uniondale and Baldwin. Under the direction of Chief of Department Joyce [80] the fire was placed under control in approximately 30 minutes with overhaul conducted by crews on scene. On Thursday, March 7 at approximately 5:20 AM, the Mineola Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported garbage truck fire at the intersection of Willis Avenue and 3rd Street. 1st Assistant Chief Strauss [1601] and Chief of Department Magalhaes [1600] quickly arrived on scene finding an the fire suppression system of a garbage truck deployed. Upon the arrival of Engine 162 and Rescue 1610, while checking the truck, small pockets of fire were located and a booster line was stretched off Engine 162 to extinguish the remaining fire and cool down the truck. Crews operated on scene for approximately 30 minutes before being placed back in service.

On Tuesday, February 27th at approximately 1:30p, the City of Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported House Fire on Valentine Ave. 1st Assistant Chief Valeo [5201] was quickly on scene finding smoke from the rear of the house and upon an initial search, fire was found in a 2nd floor bedroom and a Signal 10 was transmitted. Engine & Hose Company No.4 Engine 524 was first due and stretched the initial line to quickly extinguish the main body of fire. 2 lines were stretched and placed into operation to extinguish the fire with the assistance of crews from Sea Cliff, Locust Valley and Roslyn Rescue. 1 occupant of the home was removed by Glen Cove Police Officers prior to FD arrival and a dog was removed by firefighters during operations. The fire was placed under control in approximately 25 minutes under the direction of Chief of Department Grella [5200]. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Sunday, February 25th at approximately 2pm, the Uniondale Fire Department was dispatched to a reported Kitchen Fire on Uniondale Ave. 1st Assistant Chief Martinez [7501] and 2nd Assistant Chief Hicks [7502] simultaneously arrived on scene finding smoke from the house and a Signal 98 was transmitted. Upon a quick search, fire was found in the house and a report was received of possible victims in the basement and a Signal 10 was transmitted. Brookside Engine 752 and Ladder 7544 were quickly on scene and stretched the initial line to begin extinguishing the fire while performing searches for the reported victims. At least 3 lines were stretched and placed into operation to extinguish the fire which spanned across all 3 floors of the house. Fortunately, no victims were found but multiple animals were rescued by firefighters and turned over to the Town of Hempstead Animal Control. With the assistance on scene from crews from North Bellmore, Roosevelt, Freeport, Hempstead and East Meadow, the fire was extinguished in under 30 minutes with extensive overhaul conducted by crews on scene. Under the direction of Chief of Department Ellerbe [7500] the fire was placed under control in approximately 1 hour. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Sunday, February 18th just after 5am, the Plainview Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported building fire on Central Park Rd. 9566 was quickly on scene with active fire in the building and upon the arrival of 1st Assistant Chief Cohen [9502], a Signal 10 was transmitted with heavy fire on the 2nd floor of the Harmon Shepherd Hill Apartments with confirmed occupants still within. Engine 9522 was first due and stretched the initial lines to begin extinguishing the fire while firefighters and police worked to locate and remove numerous occupants from the building. Crews made an aggressive attack on the fire but switched to defensive operations due to collapses within the structure. Numerous hand lines and at least one master stream was placed into operation to extinguish the main body of fire. With the assistance of crews from Bethpage, Jericho, Hicksville, Syosset, Melville, Farmingdale and South Farmingdale, the fire was placed under control in approximately 3 hours with extensive overhaul and searches conducted. At least 3 occupants were transported to local hospitals with burns and smoke inhalation as well as one fatality located inside the apartment. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Saturday, January 27th at approximately 5:30a, the Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported building fire at the intersection of Rockaway Ave and West Lincoln Ave. First arriving units found smoke coming from the storefront and a Signal 10 was transmitted. Engine 341 was first due and stretched the initial lines to begin to search for and extinguishing the fire. After crews stretched multiple hand lines into the store to fight the fire, the decision was made to transition to a defensive operation with the fire continuing to spread through the cockloft of the building. At least 3 master streams were placed into operation in addition to the hand lines to extinguish the bulk of the fire before crews re-entered the building for overhaul. The fire ultimately reached 5 alarms before being placed under control after approximately 4 hours of operations. Numerous mutual aid departments were requested to assist with operations and coverage of the district. All operations were under the direction of Chief of Department Scanlon [3400]. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On Friday, January 26th at approximately 9:40p, the Bethpage Fire Department was dispatched to a reported car into building with fire at the intersection of Boundary Ave and North Broadway. 3rd Assistant Chief Ganshaw [Car 4] quickly arrived on scene finding 2 cars into the building with one car overturned on its side. The occupants of one of the vehicles was trapped but quickly extricated and turned over to EMS. Engine 905 stretched 1 precautionary line while crews from Rescue 3 and Ladder 4 secured the vehicles, checked for structural damage and removed the vehicles from the building. In total, 2 aided were transported from the scene by Nassau County Emergency Ambulance Bureau with an additional aided evaluated and released on scene. Crews operated for approximately 1 hour under the direction of Chief of Department DeBobes [Car 1] before being placed back in service. The accident is under investigation by Nassau County Police.

On Friday, January 26th at approxiamtely 1a, the Locust Valley Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire in a group home on 1st St. Staffing Duty Car 5498, Chemical Company Captain Sandstrom quickly arrived on scene finding smoke showing from the house with active fire in the 2nd floor bedroom of a group home and a Signal 10 was transmitted. Rescue Engine 542 was first due and stretched the initial line to quickly knock down the main body of fire before it could spread any further. In total, 3 lines were stretched with 2 placed into operation to completely extinguish the fire with the assistance of crews from Glen Cove, Sea Cliff and a FAST from Bayville. Under the direction of 1st Assistant Chief Bonislawski [5401], the fire was placed under control in approximately 30 minutes before the scene was turned over to the Nassau County Fire Marshal and Nassau County Police Arson & Bomb Squad for further investigation. During the initial stages of the investigation, a resident of the group admitted to starting the fire and was placed in custody by the Nassau County Police. That resident was charged with arson and multiple other felonies related to the fire.
