ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ 'ਅਤਿਵਾਦੀ' ਕਹਿਣ ਦੇ ਵਿਵਾਦਿਤ ਬਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਹੁਣ ਸਾਂਸਦ ਸਿਮਰਨਜੀਤ ਮਾਨ 44 ਸਾਲ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਐਨਕਾਊਂਟਰ ਦੇ ਕੇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਘਿਰਦੇ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰ ਬੀ.ਕੇ ਚਮ ਦੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਅਵਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਿਮਰਨਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਸਰਵਿਸ ਰਿਵਾਲਵਰ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੋਲੀ ਮਾਰੀ ਸੀ। ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰ ਬੀ.ਕੇ. ਚਮ ਦੀ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਡਾ ਦਾਅਵਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ '1979 'ਚ ਸਿਮਰਨਜੀਤ ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਫੇਕ ਐਨਕਾਊਂਟਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ। ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਸਰਵਿਸ ਰਿਵਾਲਵਰ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੋਲ਼ੀ ਮਾਰੀ।'
ਸਰਾਏ ਨਾਗਾ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰੇ 'ਤੇ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਚਲਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਇਲਜ਼ਾਮ ਹਨ। ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਿਮਰਨਜੀਤ ਮਾਨ ਫਰੀਦਕੋਟ ਦੇ ਤਤਕਾਲੀ SSP ਸੀ। '9 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ 1979 ਨੂੰ 8 ਨਿਹੰਗ ਫਰੀਦਕੋਟ ਦੇ ਸਰਾਏ ਨਾਗਾ ਪਿੰਡ 'ਚ ਰੁਕੇ। ਨਿਹੰਗ ਸਿੰਘ ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਮਨਾਉਣ ਦਮਦਮਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਪਾਲਤੂ ਬਾਂਦਰ ਵੀ ਸੀ। 11 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ 1979 ਨੂੰ ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰੇ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਾਦਾਰ ਵਿਚਾਲੇ ਝਗੜਾ ਹੋਇਆ। ਸੇਵਾਦਾਰ ਦੇ ਪਾਲਤੂ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਨੇ ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਂਦਰ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਢ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ। ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ ਨੇ ਕੁੱਤੇ ਨੂੰ ਤਾੜਨ ਲਈ ਡੰਡੇ ਦਾ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਕੀਤਾ। ਸੇਵਾਦਾਰ ਨੇ ਹਰਚਰਨ ਬਰਾੜ ਦੇ ਬੇਟੇ ਨੂੰ ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਇਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਬਰਾੜ ਦੇ ਬੇਟੇ ਨੇ ਫੋਨ ਕਰ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾ ਲਿਆ। ਨਿਹੰਗ ਨੇੜੇ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਾਂ 'ਚ ਲੁਕ ਗਏ। ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਫਾਇਰਿੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ ਤੇ ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਫਾਇਰਿੰਗ 'ਚ ਤਿੰਨ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ। ਅਗਲੀ ਸਵੇਰ ਤਤਕਾਲੀ SSP ਸਿਮਰਨਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ ਵੀ ਮੌਕੇ 'ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ। ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰੇ 'ਤੇ ਗੋਲੀਆਂ ਚਲਾਉਣੀਆਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ। ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਉਡਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਧਮਕੀ ਤੱਕ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਖਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਰੰਡਰ ਕੀਤਾ। 5 ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਪੱਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਰੱਸੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰੇ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਲਿਜਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। SSP ਮਾਨ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਰਵਿਸ ਰਿਵਾਲਵਰ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਗੋਲੀ ਚਲਾਈ। ਮਾਨ ਦੀ ਗੋਲੀ ਨਾਲ ਦੋ ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ। ਤਤਕਾਲੀ DM ਨੇ SSP ਦਾ ਹੱਥ ਫੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਰੋਕ ਲਿਆ। ਦੋ ਹੋਰ ਨਿਹੰਗਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਥੇ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਇੱਕ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੇ ਮਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।'
