Nice work Shaan! How did your weekend of driving go?

Shaan made $43/hr before expenses driving exclusively for Lyft in San Francisco and said he focused on working during 60%, 30%, and 20% turbo times. Events and BART delays brought in some great rides. Shaan also skipped short trips for better-paying medium and long ones on turbo. Ended up with a solid haul and some good tips!

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.. 😭

Finally got off the waitlist for Waymo here in Los Angeles. Requested a ride to Santa Monica on Uber vs Waymo. Here's how they stacked up.

💰 Cost - $29 Waymo vs $22 Uber
⏰ ETA - 7 min Waymo vs 3 min Uber

I requested both at the same time, and waymo matched quickly, and the ETA held true. Uber took a little longer to match with a driver (since drivers may not want this trip so it bounces around more) but ETA then dropped down to 2 minutes.

7 min ETA for waymo isn't bad but obviously 2-3 minutes is better, and of course the cheaper price matters even more.

I would probably pay more for a Waymo because a Jaguar I pace is much nicer than a Prius but not sure I'd pay more for a robo driver vs a human. TBD on that one. I need to take some more rides before I decide but I have a feeling it will vary.

“This customer met another driver who she wanted to hire directly but he could only take cash or venmo/zelle. She needed a credit card receipt for her business so make sure you get Square, Clover or Stripe. They’re free and you can process credit cards and send receipts. Here’s your monthly reminder that both Uber and Lyft now charge a $2,500 deductible in the event of an accident - regardless of fault!

But companies like Douglas Eisold: Allstate Insurance actually offer a ‘deductible gap’ coverage. From their website: “A ridesharing insurance endorsement may help cover the gap between your personal auto policy's deductible and the TNC policy's deductible in this type of scenario. So, if your collision coverage deductible is $500, and the TNC's collision coverage deductible is $1,000, the ridesharing endorsement may help pay the $500 difference.”

Yikes, that’s brutal! What’s your current driver rating? I don’t think it matters much as long as you’re 4.8 or higher, but it definitely sucks to get low ratings here and there.

If you’re struggling with your rating, check out our course for drivers - Maximum Ridesharing Profits. The most popular module by far is all about ‘how to maintain a 5 star rating’. Few takeaways:

🗺️ Make sure you know your city - the top spots, N/W/S/E, the freeways, etc. GPS is a tool, not a crutch.
🗳️ Stay away from touchy subjects like politics, religion, etc.
🚘 Drive carefully and smoothly but don’t be a maniac. It’s a fine line..

Uber and T-Mobile / Play Octopus just announced an exclusive advertising partnership. This could be big news for drivers who use Octopus tables in their car as I imagine there will be a lot more advertisers/ $$ flowing in.

Octopus says that full-time drivers can earn up to $100 per month (plus any extra tips from happy riders) and can refer new drivers to the platform for a $25 referral bonus. Compensation is based on the number of trips they complete and passenger engagement with the tablet.
