Loose Cannon on Board is a place where “every day” people have a forum to speak their minds on any topics that pique their interest. The name is spawned from the roots of Managing Editor Bryan Voight’s popular, yet controversial weekly opinion column of the same name for the college newspaper which he was also the Editor-in-Chief of at one point. Tackling both school issues, such as taking on a co
rrupt school administration who attempted to cover up some massive wrong doings and just sweep them under the rug, to taking on national hot topics such as Middle Eastern conflict and United States politics. While Bryan did not pursue a journalistic career following his years of studies, he has continued to pop up with an opinion piece here and there over the years, always inciting the question from his peers “Why aren’t you writing more?”
Joining Bryan in the leadership of Loose Cannon on Board is Senior Editor Wes Pepper, who worked with him on that same college newspaper, also serving a stint as the publication’s Editor-in-Chief. Wes currently works as the Director of Curriculum & Instruction of a Charter School Management Organization, and also serves on the board for his daughter’s school in the greater Sacramento, California area. This is the second such undertaking of a project that Wes and Bryan have taken on, the first one being the short-lived Fire-Back.net, which saw some hard hitting pieces, but sadly neither of us truly had the know-how at the time to turn it into what we envisioned. But we’ve never been quitters, either, and now we’re back and looking to do it all over again with a much more solid foundation. With a roster of a handful of additional writers signed on as we launch here at the end of March, 2016, Loose Cannon on Board promises to provide varying opinions and insights on a wide array of subject matter. No topic is off limits, and while we are not a mass media juggernaut guided by big business and political interests angling our stories, we will always do our best to back up any statements or opinions with research based facts, interviews, and truth. Consider this site a “Propaganda-Free Zone.” Some of the issues we tackle may be fun and lighthearted, some may be extremely serious. Sometimes we’ll look at issues that everyone is talking about, others may be topics that aren’t in society’s mainstream conscious. That’s the idea behind flying the Loose Cannon on Board flag for all of us contributing to this forum. The definition of a “Loose Cannon” as stated by the definition of the term from Merriam-Webster, in proper context, is absolutely fitting. Our thoughts, opinions, ideas and statements won’t be controlled by any sort of special interests or political parties. Each writer we have on staff were selected to join us in this project because we have the the moxy to say what’s real to us, in our world, which is the same world that 99% of us live in. If we cause embarrassment to others through our work here, good. It was most likely deserved. We’re not out to liable any person, business or other entity. We’re just here to call anyone and anyone on their B.S. when the time is needed, and maybe have a little fun in doing so. That can be an uncontrollably dangerous thing. And that’s exactly how we want it to be.
