An important lesson I hope more artists internalize…Adele just smashed spotify records with a single containing vocals, piano, bass and a basic kick loop. The vocals are very clearly untuned. There’s no production to artificially make the song more exciting. A great song, great melody and an authentic and compelling performance will always demolish the posers.

Cutting background vocals. Mic stands are for posers. Seriously though, my advice to aspiring musicians that want to self record is buy an SM7b and a powerful clean preamp and be done with it. I personally believe you have to spend at least a couple thousand dollars to find a condenser mic that performs better. The sm7b is $399.
