Who We Are

An all-volunteer run news portal, www.bhutannewsservice.com is a subsidiary of Bhutan Media Society (BMS), a non-profit entity based in the United States with 501(c)(3) tax exemption status. This news site was informally founded in 2004 by a small group of Bhutanese refugee youths, then residing in refugee camps in Nepal after the expulsion of their families from Bhutan. They believed that journalism was a noble means by which to keep the community informed & continue advocating the refugee issue.

For the last 13 years, the site remained active disseminating mainly the current news reports gathered by its volunteer correspondents from within the community. Beginning in 2018, this portal’s primary focus is to document the success stories surfacing in Diaspora post-resettlement. The site’s second priority will continue to remain the news dissemination under the “community news” section. In the meantime, we welcome your editorial input and submissions for our review. BNS has a wide range of readers from across the world. Currently BNS receives reports from 10 different countries, including Bhutan. The constructive suggestions we have received from our valued readers, at different times, encouraged BMS to adopt changes in this news portal.
