In 1986, Monk along with his brothers Frederick and Roderick, formed a group called, "FDR", and was signed to Fantasy Records. Monk was involved in producing the first album as well as singing and playing. Shortly thereafter, he formed D. During the next few years, he began producing /co-producing albums for various artists in the Bay Area, and provided backup vocals and co-produced the album for

platinum recording artist, 12 Gauge. Derrick has many things to his credit, including performing and winning Amateur Night at "Showtime at the Apollo". In 1992, he met his mentor, the legendary James Brown, and continued to learn from and follow him until his death in 2006. Derrick was able to serve the Godfather one more time by performing at Mr. Brown's furneral. Derrick Monk is definitely a force to be reckoned with, a universal talent singing everything from ballads to Funk to R & B, but he has now returned to his true calling of Gospel Music. His latest single, entitled "I'll Obey", offers complete surrender to the will of God!
