You can find our titles at the WV Artisan Market just off the I-77 Fairplain exit near Ripley, WV. You can also find many beautiful items by local artisans, delicious food, as well as a very interesting display of WV coal mining history.

I found this very interesting certificate at an antique mall in Huntington yesterday! (Didn’t buy it; not sure what I would do with it). The Stonewall Jackson Life Insurance Company was one of the more unusual memorials to Jackson in West Virginia, and illustrated his far-reaching popularity throughout the state during the twentieth century. Huntington businessman Robert “Bob” Holley founded the insurance company in 1959. Holley drew up a list of fifty famous West Virginians to choose from, and ultimately concluded that Stonewall Jackson was the most appropriate person to represent West Virginia. In addition, Holley stated “Stonewall the man stood for everything a good insurance company should possess- soundness, firmness, and determination.” The business shut down merely a decade later, absorbed by a larger entity.

This month marks two years since the publication of my first book! “A Constant Reminder to All: Stonewall Jackson, the Lost Cause, and the Making of a West Virginia Idol” explores Stonewall Jackson’s relationship with West Virginia and how Confederate heritage groups turned him into a revered figure within this Union state. I’ve been happy to see it receive good reviews, kind feedback, and so far no hate mail!
