Here is a joyful shout-out to Anton du Preez for his delightful work in bringing to life some of the music in "Jack Hardy's Guide to Blackjack". His musical acumen shines in the poignant "Picture of Your Soul", the snappy "Baby's Jet Plane" and the devilish tango piece "Dead.Again". Even so, I didn't begin to scratch his full range and capabilities.
Anton is a composer, singer, and songwriter in Palm Springs and Los Angeles. He is a regular performer and recording artist, and also composes and produces for various projects. His credits include a number of Hallmark and Lifetime films, the TV series “Demonhuntr,” singing for video games including Destiny, Diablo, and World of Warcraft, and he has released several albums. He is also a transcriber for Disney Character Voices International, a Neurologic Doctor of Physical Therapy, a registered therapy dog team, a US Navy veteran, and proudly gay.
Anton earned his Master of Music in Film Composition in 2018, studying with two-time Emmy Award winning composer, Hummie Mann, in the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program at the Seattle Film Institute.
His greatest joy in life is sharing and experiencing music. Its ability to simultaneously convey and elicit emotion to enhance the experience of life and film, and to express complex feelings with the vast array of tiny nuances or grandiose breadth that words alone could never express.
We are proud to share his work with you!

DROPPED and already selling! You can now listen to and purchase three of the songs from "Jack Hardy's Guide to Blackjack" at https://antondupreezmusic.com/songs. The link takes you to the page where you can hear the snappy show opener "Baby's Jet Plane" as well as the poignant "Picture of Your Soul" and the devilish "Dead.Again" (an ever-ending story).

There are three versions of each song, but the dialog version in "Baby's Jet Plane" offers a peek into the show as well.

When I started this show I never expected this.
Anton du Preez has been a joy to work with. He navigated all the unique challenges I asked of him with ease, and I'm sure you'll find the results delightful. More about this accomplished man in a deserved separate post.

TIME TO RESERVE YOUR FREE TICKETS!
Somewhere in the wee hours this morning I was working my way down the countdown list toward the world premier when I realized what I was typing! After so much time, working with so many incredible artists, and a zillion things done, we're getting ready for the big event. I am so thankful for all of us who made this happen, and for the friendships that have grown along the way. I'm looking forward to seeing us all again soon.
I've just sent the promotional details to SIFF. When they are posted you will be able to reserve tickets. Don't wait!

AUGUST 2024 -- Recording with the folks at Full Well Studios in Phoenix this week for "Jack Hardy's Guide to Blackjack". Can't believe it's less than two months until the opening at the Mary D. Fisher Theater in Sedona. See it on Saturday afternoon, October 19.

Livin' the joy these days after recently shooting the last sequence for "Jack Hardy's Guide to Blackjack"! It's been a looong road, and it's still sinking in that the show is now completely in the can! No more dreaming up new cool shots. It's all about editing and music now.
This was also a personal milestone for me as I hadn't done any stunt work in 50 years. Definitely worth a little goofing for the camera. Rawwr!

That's me on the right back in the day, raining down long-haired hell on the Establishment as the editor of my college newspaper. Helped stop a dam being built on an earthquake fault. Supported Daniel Inoe (from the Watergate commission) to come speak, published articles on women's rights, sent a team to the San Joaquin Valley to report on migrant farms, worked to set up a communications network between colleges all over the state, got top honors on the college president's list...
Tnen when I went to apply at UC Davis, they told me that I couldn't, "because you're white and male and we already have enough of you."
By the time I reached my car I realized that it wasn't all those separate classes of rights I had been fighting for, but the human spirit, regardless of what kind of body it's in. And I'm one too, being judged for the perceived crimes of others. I was raised to respect women. I never owned slaves. I never killed natives and took their land, owned a bank or reigned as a king. I was just a good liberal young man, here, now, a little bit wiser, but still not going to cut my hair. And no matter how short it's ever gotten, I never have.

This is the covid testing line in Flagstaff Arizona on Monday, July 6. About 100 cars, with multiple people in some. Two weeks ago there were about 15 cars in line, a 660% increase. Timing the line, I counted five cars coming through every 10 minutes, or 30 tests per hour. . Five million people just went into lockdown in Melbourne, Australia's second largest city, because they found 151 new cases there in one day. In Arizona we are seeing over 3,000 new cases per day but are not on lockdown. We are asked to wear masks, but this is largely ignored and not enforced except in stores. Also, because our healthcare system is commercial, you can only be tested at this location if you have a note from a doctor, and if you have a car. No news about how many people are not getting tested because they can't afford those. Neighbor dropped by for lunch. He can run 30 mph and fly if he wants to. Roadrunners live in the US Southwest and northern Mexico. Usually shy, this one has gotten used to me while I've stopped in the Verde Valley these last few days. They are cuckoos, with a call like doves.
