Our free, live concert featuring IMY2 is about to starting now at the stage behind the Frontier Club (located at 1330 Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr.). Come join the party! The Frontier Club and food trucks located in the back, close to the stage, are serving great food until 8pm. The Fallout Shelter Bar & Grill has pizza and wings - and drink specials - until 8pm, as well.

Marathon 2 in the books. Completed the Bataan Memorial Death March in 6:56 with Louis Betanzos. Great event but those hills could have been a tad smaller. Overall not bad for not rucking since Ft Campbell.

This man right here never fails to amaze me!! When he sets his mind to something he accomplishes it -no matter what! He trained so hard for the Bataan Memorial Death March and officially completed his very first marathon. 26.2 MILES 😮Words can’t express how dang proud I am of you Mike Lambert.

WSMR holds the 35th Bataan Memorial Death March
WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. (March 16, 2024) – Over 5,000 racers participated in the 35th Annual Bataan Memorial Death March which was held on March 16 at White Sands Missile Range.
The event honors a special group of World War II heroes who were responsible for the defense of the Philippine Islands of Luzon, Corregidor, and Harbor Defense Forts.
Among those in attendance was Bataan Death March survivor Valdemar DeHerrera, 104, who has attended for the past three years.
“Today has been good! A lot of people showed up,” said DeHerrera.
“He’s been coming to this for so long, it’s one of his favorite things to do,” said DeHerrera’s granddaughter, Celina Trujillo.
This was WSMR Commander Col. George C. Turner, Jr., WSMR Command Sgt. Maj. Michael S. Cordery, and WSMR Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Jamal N. Latore’s first Bataan Memorial Death March.
“To see White Sands Missile Range come to life today is truly amazing. I am impressed with the team that put this on and with all the people who showed up today to participate in the march. I can’t say enough how proud I am,” said Latore.
WSMR Garrison Commander Col. David A. Mitchell’s participated in the march for the second year in a row.
“Today was great and there was high comradery among the marchers. The force is in great shape, the weather was awesome, and it’s pretty amazing to run a marathon with your newest 5,000 friends. I had a great time running this for the second year in a row and I would love to do it again,” said Mitchell.

Packet pickup success.. exploring White Sands Missile Range, the exhibits for the Bataan Memorial Death March were overwhelming to bear witness to the stories of the men who were forced marched as POW. We took some time to have fun at White Sands National Park, its white gypsum sand is the craziest thing to see in the middle of New Mexico. Tomorrow we embark on 26.2 miles with 6000 of our closest friends.

What is the Bataan Memorial Death March? It’s 26.2 miles in the high desert of New Mexico with a 35 pound pack on our backs. It’s a small way to honor and remember the 70,000 American and Philippine soldiers that were marched for days as POW during WWII. They were essentially marched to their death with no food, water, and often shoes for almost 100 miles. As we head to the event tomorrow - I will spend the day Saturday in reflection of the sacrifices that these men endured. I encourage everyone to learn a bit about this event in history and never forget. Patrick Rodgers Katie Schneider
