STORYTELLERS - Ep. 31 ft. Christopher Staskel -"Being vulnerable enough"

So thrilled to share the latest episode of STORYTELLERS with my friend Chris Staskel! Chris and I went to college together and I'm always in awe of his skills, talents, and passion! Check out this latest episode where he shares what it feels like to move past fear and express art through full vulnerability.

I've always believed in the power of stories. When we share the vulnerable parts of ourselves, it connects us to each other and the deepest essence of ourselves. This whole series is an expression of that inner most core of so many beautiful storytellers. We need stories deeply now in the midst of so much that we face as a human family. Had to re-share from Shayla Benoit]] - love you so so much and I’m so grateful for you and your friendship. You are a hero in so many ways and you light up the world with your gifts, your friendship, your passion, your heart! And so lucky to be with you and and Harry last night after you received all the wonderful news. Feels like the end of one book and the beginning of another. So much love Shay!!

Repost from Shayla Benoit]]

This picture is truly worth more than a thousand words to me.

Yesterday, I went in for another oncology follow up. This one was for lymphoma because when you’ve had two cancers, you now have two different specialists you have to go to.

The last lymphoma follow up had found a second cancer, so let’s just say I was pretty anxious about this appointment.

When I go to these, I wait in a lobby where I once vomited and passed out, and due to an accidental scheduling snafu, I had to wait for an hour and a half in a place that’s a PTSD minefield for me. I’m not prone to panic attacks, but I was seriously on the verge of one by the time I was called in.

The best part is, my numbers are good. The even better part is, I’m now cleared to be more “normal.” Immediate tears.

I love my doctor because he then said, “But most importantly, ARE YOU LIVING YOUR LIFE AGAIN?!” I was able to proudly respond, “YES! I’m filming on Broadway tonight!!!”

The last two and a half years often get glossed over with “I was isolated in a house.” I made the most of it, but I can’t tell you how I day dreamed about being back to “normal,” to being with loved ones, to doing what I love, to being a part of a community that means so much to me.

So in a very last minute crazy turn of events, I got a chance to film on Broadway last night with Tim Grady and Eric Mann. Two of my best friends who were among the first people to arrive at the hospital when I was diagnosed.
I started the day at the hospital in an oncology appointment, and ended it working on Broadway with two of my best friends who really helped get me through this time. I hugged them both and cried in the back of the theatre in utter joy and gratitude. Finish reading on Shayla Benoit]]

It’s been very long overdue, but a very near and dear project that we filmed last year just felt like I couldn’t just throw something up!

HEALIN’ created by is a dance film inspired by the healing power of community. It asks the question of how community shows up for you - especially when looking into the depths of our past wounding. I’m so so so grateful to have been a part of this set that really made sure even behind the scenes that we took time connecting and feeling that sense of community. I’m also so lucky to have collaborated with who beautifully directed and whose’s choreo inspired so much camera movement - the 3 of you all were a dream team!! And big shout out to for helping make all the shots happen (and light saber magic!) and got to film with my very beautiful and incredible wife (I know of no one more exquisite than you honey!). Also to the whole incredible cast and crew - y’all are awesome!! .schultz .prince.tate
