From Small Beginnings
Welcome to the page for UMMS Master Class! As a result of his love for Prince, Chris Arnel became an admin on the Uptown Minneapolis Music Scene page. While moderating on that page, he developed a desire to reach out to artists and musicians, former employees or business people who had worked with Prince and conduct interviews in a Master Class format to publish on the UMMS page. Not only did he want to highlight Prince and his enormous impact on the musical community, he wanted to feature new and upcoming artists in Minneapolis. This includes those who continue to elevate the electric funk that Prince cultivated in the 70’s and 80’s as well as those who were found forging their own sound on the Minneapolis streets. Chris’s first interview was with the family of Big Chick, the famous blonde giant who was Prince’s bodyguard in the 80’s during Purple Rain fame. From there, UMMS Master Class exploded into a podcast that has grown exponentially into a weekly radio show on internet-based Real Music Radio on Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m. You can catch his show every Tuesday on www.realmusicradio.com and if you’re a die-hard fan, listen to it again on www.mixcloud.com/umms_master_class.
