BAERISM - GARBAGE FUTURISM - POST WASTE
This right here is the reason I make Kill Pretty. Because I have a magazine I'm able to have hour long conversations with artists that I admire. Sometimes these conversations turn into lasting friendships with incredibly special people. BAER has been one of my favorite graffiti writers for a long time and becoming his friend, making art with him and meeting his inner circle has continued to change my life. I feel so lucky to be welcomed into this group and to have experience the greatest graffiti art show of all time.

The show is up for the next month and I suggest you go see the Graphomet sculpture in real life. There's a lot of incredible art at this show but the Graphoment is next level.

So I didn't grow up with Star Wars. When I finally watched it in college I thought it was pretty boring. I kept my opinions to myself because people loved it so much. Then the sequels came and they were even worse than the original. Suddenly there was Star Wars ducktape, grapes, vacuums, tape dispensers, everything! Star Wars was everywhere and I hated it. Then Disney announced they would release a new Star Wars every year forever.

So I bought f**kstarwars.com and created an anti Star Wars campaign. I made tshirts and stickers and went hard.....Everyone hated it. I couldn't sell a shirt and people were pi**ed at me. My opinion was that Disney didn't care about the fans and was going to make as much money off Star Wars as possible and because the fans were so in love their love was actually ruining the franchise. I still give the stickers out because it's funny but I think I might be the only one! I still own the domain but stopped paying for the website.

My favorite comedian ever is Doug Stanhope. He has more stand up specials than any other comedian (13?) and is incredibly smart. I asked him a million questions about his life and I could tell he was just answering the way he had a million times. Then I got to the end of the interview where I usually ask stupid questions. I remember I asked him what his favorite condiment was and he just lit up. We talked about mustard and hot sauce for like 20 minutes.

I don't know if he ever saw the magazine. I hope he did. Either way so grateful I got to talk to him!

Did you know ORFN wrote a story for Kill Pretty?

I hit up ORFN in order to get an interview and he wasn't interested. I asked him if I could put some of his photos in the magazine and he said he had a story for me. I'm not sure how much writing ORFN did but I was extremely hyped to get this email. I never met ORFN in real life but feel so happy he agreed to give me this piece.

Just to show how weird the universe is I interviewed Mike Carroll and Jacob Rosenberg in this issue also and Rosenberg just happened to sneak in a skate photo of ORFN without telling me. So Issue 3 ended up having a lot of ORFN content! Weird!

If you're a cartoon fan you probably know one of the holy grails is the "model book" for any cartoon. This is the book they give to every animator to teach them how to draw in the style of the artist. It shows each character on all sides. I was lucky enough to have the one and only Everett Peck send me the model book for Duckman, of of my all time favorite cartoons. I did a really great interview with Peck for issue 3. Maybe if you find one on ebay you can read it!

And check out Duckman! It still holds up!

Lost Pages of Kill Pretty!

It takes me so long to make an issue of Kill Pretty sometimes it gets embarrassing. I did my first interview with a pornstar and a friend of a friend named Annie Cruz. The interview was funny and it came out great but by the time it was finally ready to go to print so many years went by I just canned it. I couldn't bring myself to let Annie know that I still planned on printing it.

My favorite part of the interview was when Annie talked about being on the show NEXT and how she was squirting on the bus on the way to the first date for all the other girl contenders. Then she came off the bus as the first girl and the guy never said "NEXT"! Smart man!

Now a days when I interview someone I say "Hey don't be mad if this doesn't come out in a few years!"

Dave Schubert was one of my favorite people I got to meet making Kill Pretty. A total sweetheart and incredible artist. I was lucky enough to spend hours on the phone learning about his life and getting photography advice. I helped him layout his recent 3 graffiti zines and will always miss the long phone calls.

He was insanely kind to let an idiot graffiti writer weirdo use his photos in Kill Pretty. This was issue 2 and let's just say issue 1 was less than impressive. But he believed in me. Why? No clue. But he did.

It's important to pick up the phone sometimes. Dave messaged me a week before his death and I don't know how I'll ever live with the fact that I wasn't there for him. The holidays can be harder for people that you imagine and if you get a call in December from an old friend make sure to pick up.
