I had someone in the salon this week ask me if it’s safe to get their nails done if they have alpha gal. I emailed Tickled Pinque, the company I use, to find out. Their products are all 100% vegan and safe to use.

I have added a selection of traditional lacquer polishes to the salon now for those that prefer it to gel. I don’t up charge for gel so the price is the same regardless.

Did you know there are more ways to apply acrylic than just a base with a gel polish over top?

Acrylic comes in so many colors and finishes. You can choose a color of acrylic like you can a shade of gel polish. You can add glitter and sequins into acrylic for custom dimension.

Many salons don’t offer this as an option because these are more expensive than the bulk clear they use. But I prefer the look over gel polish.

What’s the benefit of choosing a colored acrylic over a gel polish? No chipping or streaking. Thinner and less bulbous nails. A faster appointment time.

I carry a selection of colors in the salon but have even more at home. If you want a particular shade, message me before your appointment date so I’ll be sure to have it.

This is tinted hard gel on natural nails. (Not gel polish). This is as strong as acrylic but thinner and glossier than acrylic. Hard gel is my number one if you ask me what to select. Works on all nail types.

We have severe storms and flooding moving in starting tonight that could cause any appointments the next few days to be rescheduled. The last time my roads flooded and I couldn’t get out. I have availability today from 1-4:30 if anyone wants to come today.

Today’s education- monomer.

Monomer is the liquid that is mixed with powder to form acrylic nails.

Monomer comes in 2 forms- mma and ema

MMA is illegal to use on nails in the USA. It is what is used in dental offices for fillings and made to be permanent. It can cause extreme damage to nail beds, is very hard to remove from nails (which is why the shops that use it pop your nails off instead of soaking) and can enter your bloodstream.

EMA is approved for nail enhancements. It is not as strong as what is used in these illegal establishments. And it’s 4-5x the cost of the mma.

For example: MMA costs about $40 a gallon and EMA is about $240 a gallon.

The pros of MMA is that nails will absolutely stay on up to 8 weeks and not lift and the lower cost, of course. Many people choose to overlook the legality and use it anyway and customers don’t care because their nails last longer.

I’ve personally removed mma from several clients in my chair lately and it took close to 40 minutes to get it off. Chances are if you’re going into a walk-in nail salon, it’s MMA.

I’m a rule follower and only use EMA on my clients.

I promise I’m not pulling you forward to be mean. Just remember if you can see your nails, I can’t. It’s important for me to be able to turn and move your fingers and to have gravity to help move product down.

This is a great watch. It’s so important to know that not every product is going to work for every person and not even every brand will. If we try a product and it doesn’t work for you, we will tweak products and switch things out to find what does work for you. If I’ve never done your nails before, I don’t know your nails yet. It may take a couple appointments to really find what is best for you. This is why I offer free adjustments within two weeks to fix anything that goes wrong- 1- so I can see what the issue is and know what to look for. 2- so that you don’t damage your nails trying to fix it or remove it yourself. 3- so I can make adjustments and find what is best for you. After 2 weeks there is enough growth that the structure has changed and could just be time for a fill depending on how fast your nail grows. Some people need fills at 2 weeks, some at 3 or 4. A true fill lies between 2-3 weeks. Beyond 3 weeks nails need to be rebalanced because the strength/apex has moved and are no longer considered a fill.

Pedicures are finally bookable. This is a cosmetic pedicure like a facial for your feet. I have a gold option and a platinum option. The platinum includes cbd oil and a hot oil foot massage. $45/60
