"A really good friend, Shannon Berge, sent me this picture yesterday. I remember when it was taken thirty years ago, but it’s probably been just as long since the last time I saw it! I thought to myself…

‘What were your dreams back then? Do you remember them? Are you happy with where you’re at? Did all your dreams come true?’

Not exactly in the way I thought they might roll out, but I wouldn’t change a thing.

"I hopped on social media this morning and discovered so many posts featuring artwork my friends have created. 🎨🖌️ It amazes me how an artist can create something out of nothing; a painter that can fill a blank canvas, a singer that can fill a quiet space, a filmmaker who can fill an empty screen... But then, does it all really come from nothing? I find that all of my creations have been inspired somehow by another's work; whether it is seeing the hard work someone's put forth, the colors they've used, or an emotion they've evoked. I realized that art is cyclical in creation- without inspiration, art wouldn't happen and vice versa. So, I will continue to do my part in the process and create, in hopes to inspire, and will look to you all to be my muses!" ✨

Today we’d like to highlight a unique project that was directed / written / produced by our ANP gal Bela six years ago — and starred fellow ANP ladies, Kath and Beta! This short film was a full circle moment for the company 🫶🏻

In 2012, Bela made her ANP debut in our very first feature film and then… in 2018, she went on to direct Kath and Beta in the project she created entirely on her own. If you haven’t seen it, give it a watch. We're super proud of our girl!

This we are highlighting writer/director/co-editor Lauren Hadaway and her unnerving film, The Novice.

The film follows a college freshman who joins her university's rowing team. She undertakes an obsessive physical and psychological journey to make it to the top varsity boat, no matter the cost.

Today's check-in with Bela 💜

"How’s the new year treating everyone so far? Personally, I feel I’m in a much better place now than I was in January of 2023. If you don’t share that sentiment, or feel dejected because you haven’t stuck to whatever ‘resolutions' you set for yourself at the start of the month… remember that you don’t need an excuse to make a change in your life. I never liked new year’s resolutions because to me, it propagates the idea that our motivation has an on / off switch. Like, once January 1st hits, we will suddenly be ready to make some massive transformation — but that’s not how it works. You don’t need that date on the calendar to serve as your excuse to do the thing. You really just need to make the decision that you want to make a change, and the rest will follow. Whether that’s on January 1st or January 25th or any other day in the year, it doesn’t really matter as long as it’s a commitment you actually want to make. That’s when you’ll find success in it. And you will. Godspeed, friends.” ~ Bela

Today’s snowy with Beta 💜

"Nothing like the first snow! Nashville is experiencing some challenging weather this week, but the plus side is the beauty of it! ❄️ You would think that the cold weather would give me motivation to work because I'm forced to be stuck inside, but instead, I find myself spending a lot more time outside than expected. My body is conditioned to tolerate colder temperatures. I remember walking home from school and not being able to feel my toes as a kid… this is nothing!

Living in California for over 20 years made me forget the beauty of the seasons changing. So, here is a pic from my front yard, here in Nashville. We didn’t have a “White Christmas,” but snow in mid-January isn’t too bad 😊

For today’s we are highlighting a film that showcases women in front and behind the camera. Where the Crawdads Sing (2022) was directed by Olivia Newman from a screenplay by Lucy Alibar (from a book by Delia Owen) and was produced by Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones. This intense Southern, coming-of-age murder mystery is full of both tragedy and hope.

Beta’s delivering the first happy of the year 😊

"I don’t know a lot of people who like this month, but I always have! Just like Mondays (not anyone’s favorite, but I like them), it’s a chance to start over and do better. It feels cleansing and rejuvenating after the hustle of the holidays. For one, I’ve taken time off work and revisited some of my favorite Hitchcock films, like Notorious. As much as I promise to myself that I’ll be watching lots of good stuff over the holidays… life happens instead.

It’s raining cats and dogs here in Nashville today, and we’re getting some serious cold weather next week, but I am looking forward to the next sunny day — much like the one in this picture so that Rosie and I can go on our next adventure! 🐶

Happy January everyone, and stay safe if you’re in the states where the cold is going to be unbearable for a couple of weeks! It’s a good time to revisit some of your own favorite films too! I’d love to hear what they are!” ~ Beta

This we would like to highlight filmmaker Sandi Tan and her documentary, Shirkers. This documentary takes you through Tan & her team's horrific ordeal with the theft of their film, by their trusted mentor/director, and the eventual return of it.

Theft of intellectual property, unfortunately, is something a lot of emerging filmmakers have had to contend with. However, how Sandi Tan cleverly pieces it all together to create an award-winning documentary is a testament of not only her true resilience but filmmaking aptitude.

Last of the year with Beta ❤️

"Every year, I take my holiday decorations down by January 7th. And during that week between Christmas and New Year's Eve (which is right now), I get the Christmas blues. I watch whatever is left on my Christmas movie list and keep up the holiday spirit through prayer and meditation… but the blues are there nevertheless.

Since Advent means arrival, I view Christmas as a holiday of great expectations. It started with awaiting the arrival of Santa as a child, to growing up and understanding that the season signifies something far more powerful than a bag full of candy (although I’ll never turn down a bag full of candy) 😋

After the decorations get neatly stored back in the basement though… I usually find that I have stronger spiritual clarity, and that’s when I allow the excitement of new adventures to flood over me. As sad as it is to see the most beautiful time of year come to an end, if we’re able to focus on the positive takeaways, those can carry us through to the next winter season.

So I’m encouraging all of you to reflect on your 2023 too, and then fearlessly step into the new and exciting possibilities of ’24 🤍 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!” ~ Love and blessings, Beta
