This. This is why I wanted to write Why We Eat With Our Hands. This is why I want to make sure that South Asian kids have books with characters that look like them. So many of us grew up outside of India and constantly wondered if it was okay to feel and BE different. It wasn’t until much later that we realized our differences and what make us unique are actually the most magical parts about us. I hope Why We Eat With Our Hands makes it on as many bookshelves as possible so that children like Nyla don’t have to wait so long before coming to this realization. You can buy my book and support my mission through the link in my bio. 🙏🏽📚

📖 With right around the corner on August 30, "My Raksha Bandhan: Promise to Protect" is a great way to learn about the special bond between brothers and sisters! Authors Priya Kumari and Komal Garg of share the story of siblings Taaraa and Chandu as they celebrate this special holiday and learn about the origin of Raksha Bandhan.

To close out , I wanted to share this marketing tip from Proactive Advisor magazine! It talks about the importance of personal branding along with professional branding.

Marketing is often a forgotten component when it comes to running a business or a platform. The reality, though, is that you can perfect your skill or product all you want, but it won’t matter if people don’t know what you’re selling and how to find you.

I used to struggle with this. But, working with marketing experts like of Sarika Says, LLC has taught me that sharing who I am as a person, and not just who I am as a CEO, is so important. Even in today’s digital world, people still seek human connection.

I encourage you all, especially my fellow South Asian creators, to share your stories. Share your roots, where you came from, how you got to where you are today. You’ll find that sharing your journey is as rewarding as the end result ✨

It’s time for the fourth and final part of our AAPI series! All month long, we’ve highlighted and supported South Asian businesses that are empowering South Asian culture not only for our generation, but also for future generations. Being of South Asian descent and growing up in America can bring unique challenges when it comes to parenthood. As South Asian parents, we work hard to find platforms and vehicles that help us teach our kids about their lineage, culture, and heritage. Here are three more businesses you should check out!

is an NGO working to provide quality education and skills to the youth of India. They have chapters all over the US. They host events like summer readathons with the goal of engaging kids in summer reading, leadership development, and of course, FUN! Sign up today with the chapter in your city! I signed Nyla up, too!

is the author of one of my favorite children’s books, Always Anjali! As a kid, I never had books that I could see myself in – it’s a major reason that I wrote a book for my daughter, Nyla. Even as an adult, it makes me so happy to see a book where the main character shares my name. Author Sheetal Sheth has since written two other books, all with wonderful messages, including the importance of mental health. Get Always Anjali, Bravo Anjali, and Making Happy today.

was created by moms and educators to be a platform where you can discover multicultural books, playacts, and games for your kids. They share powerful messages and helpful tips for challenges your kids may face trying to balance their many cultures and heritages that define who they are. Check them out – you’re bound to find something that can enhance your child’s cultural learning experience.

Helping our kids stay connected to South Asian culture sometimes takes a little bit of extra effort, but thanks to people and businesses like the ones we’ve shared in our 4-part series, we have many options. Consider following and supporting these businesses. Also, if you’re interested in adding my book to your bookshelf, you can buy Why We Eat With Our Hands via Amazon or anjalijariwala.com!

has created Hindi language learning books that are bilingual, fun, and educational! If you’re looking for a way to engage your child in Hindi language learning, check out her books!

Happy Diwali and Sal Mubarak! Diwali is one of our favorite holidays and every year I come up with a few activities we can do as a family. This year is decorating diyas and Diwali cookies. (The cookies taste better than they look 😂).

Diwali celebrates lightness over dark. We'll physically light up our home but we'll also celebrate the inner meaning - dispelling the darkness of our ignorance and lighting the path on our journey through life.
