THE HISTORY
Founded in 2007 by Aled Pashley (Annwn, ex-Folkearth, ex-Siluria) and John Courage (Siluria), Folk Metal UK brought together folk metal bands from around the UK to share in ideas and music. The first FMUK gig was a special extended show by Finnish fantasy metallers Battlelore, which saw fans travel from as far away as Brazil and Mexico. John stepped down from his roles at this point,
and Aled took on all duties himself, organising a further two Gathering of the Clans festivals in 2009 and 2010. FMUK then fell into a deep slumber, only to be awoken again in 2013. Joined by Old Co**se Road guitarist/vocalist The Bearer and Shieldwall visionary Peter The Pendragon, with a vision to rebuild the Folk Metal UK presence within the ever growing scene, FMUK has plans to once again host more events around the country. THE BANDS
Many of the bands you'll see in our list may not immediately strike you as typical "Folk Metal". Here at FMUK we believe that the spectrum of bands is much broader your Turisas and Ensiferum soundalikes, covering bands from all genres of metal including Folk/Battle/Black/Death/Doom/Power and many more. The important factor is the theme in which the bands adopt visually and lyrically. From folklore, myth and legend, to history and nature. From witchcraft, medieval, paganism or even fantasy, all these bands are supported under the FMUK banner!
