APT Media is a film production group passionate about telling exciting, meaningful stories that challenge attitudes in our culture.

APT Media has been making short films since 2011, starting in our own backyard with foam swords and nerf guns. Our past projects include “Operation: Endgame” (2013), “Cityscape” (2019), and our high school feature film “To Be a Man” (2015). We pride ourselves on bold storytelling, an adventurous production journey, and collaborating with a new generation of filmmakers and actors.

8.19.2014. Seven (!) years ago we wrapped principal photography on APT Media's first feature film .

8.10.17. Four years ago we wrapped principal photography on with some car chase and our allegorical "burning bush" shots.

Four years ago today we filmed the epic third act of our film ! This is the largest single shoot APT Media has done so far and we had almost 40 people on set at one point.

6-30-2014. Today we filmed the inciting incident in our film "To Be a Man" that kicked off our lead character's journey of forgiveness and redemption. Our neighbors got to listen to a lot of yelling late into the night!

6-21-2017. We filmed the penultimate confrontation between the mysterious prophet Derek (Johnathan Halberg) and the revolutionary leader Adam (Matthew Martinson) in our film . Several times we had to pause and wait for several bystanders and parkour stunts 🤣.

TEN years ago today the spirit of Action Packed Thriller (A.P.T.) Media was born with the short film that started it all - “Operation X-Treme” featuring nerf guns, a fallen tree, tacky T-shirts and flip-flops, and the greatest cliffhanger in cinema history ;). We had no script and no plan, just started moving the camera around and building an action sequence between two expert snipers and...swordsmen?

“Operation: X-Treme” became the inspiration for our first organized, scripted film “Operation: Endgame” that we made the following year. We’re so thankful for the journey this has turned into and for our friends that have been on it with us.

In honor of APT Media's 10th(!) anniversary we will be sharing some photos and behind the scenes stories from the adventures of producing our films during the summers of 2011-17.
Our first day of filming Operation: Endgame was May 26, 2012, and our first day of principal photography on Cityscape was June 1, 2017, both at the exact same location (North Mississippi Regional Park). In fact all three of our long form film projects have been partially shot here.

to Z-Fest! This time last year, we were screening “Give Thanks,” a post-apocalyptic horror thriller that we created as part of the 2020 Z-Fest Festival. In “Give Thanks,” Mira lives a mundane life, trapped within four walls where each day she longs to be free.

We had a great time filming this last year and wanted to finally share it with all of you. Thank you to our amazing cast and crew who made this film possible! (video link is in the comments below/bio on IG)

Our Story

APT Media was created by a small group of high school students in 2011 who wrote, produced, and filmed short movies. Eventually their projects grew more detailed, and APT Media released a 40 minute feature film, "Operation: Endgame "in 2013. Two years later, the group completed their second feature film, "To Be a Man", about a young man struggling to forgive someone who deeply hurt him. "Cityscape" is APT Media’s third collaborative project, directed and produced entirely by Twin Cities film and theatre students. APT stands for action packed thriller, and we pride ourselves on bold storytelling, an adventurous production journey, and collaborating with a new generation of filmmakers and actors.
