In our digital health environment, nurses use a variety of technology to provide patient care in diverse care settings. Nurses leave behind an indelible digital fingerprint of their work, but data on the care they provide remains siloed, and is difficult to quantify. NCSBN’s Unique Nurse Identifier, the NCSBN ID, is a free, secure, turnkey solution to identifying and documenting the care provided by each nurse:https://www.ncsbn.org/public-files/InFocus_Vol1_2024.pdf =13

Nursing Expo 2024

NCSBN’s groundbreaking 2022 National Nursing Workforce Survey brought into focus the crisis surrounding nursing and the intention of almost one-fifth of registered nurses to leave the profession. We are at an urgent crossroads that requires health care systems, policymakers, regulators and academic leaders to put in place changes that will spur systemic evolution. NCSBN brought together experts from across the U.S. to participate in an ongoing discussion on solutions to staffing, burnout and the prevention of workplace violence. In this first article of a series, we discuss nurse wellness and mental health with two of those experts:https://www.ncsbn.org/public-files/InFocus_Vol1_2024.pdf =7

🎉 Celebrating Project Healthy Grandparents at Georgia State University! 🎉

We’re thrilled to announce that Project Healthy Grandparents (PHG), a remarkable community program at Georgia State University, has been designated as exemplary by the Grandfamilies & Kinship Support Network. 🌟

Since its inception in 1995, PHG has been a beacon of support for grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. 🤗 Here’s what makes PHG truly exceptional:

-In-Home Nursing and Social Work Services: PHG provides monthly home visits with registered nurses and social workers. These dedicated professionals empower grandparents with knowledge and tools to continue their caregiving journey.

--Developmental Screenings: The program ensures that grandchildren receive the care they need by conducting developmental screenings.

-Caregiver Support Groups: PHG hosts monthly caregiver support groups, fostering a sense of community and providing emotional support.

-Additional Supports: Tailored to each grandparent’s unique situation, PHG identifies and offers additional supports as needed.

One grandparent shared, “When I started this, I couldn’t see the forest because of the trees, but now I’m beginning to see. I know where to go, how to talk to teachers, doctors, and nurses—all for my grandchild’s sake.”

Eligibility and Impact:

PHG serves grandparents who are primary caregivers of their grandchildren.

Families must live within a 20-mile radius of the Georgia State University campus in downtown Atlanta.

No age requirements or income limits for grandparents.
Grandchildren must be 16 or under.

PHG has served over 3,600 grandparents and grandchildren.

Most clients are African American women, aged 37 to 84, raising an average of 2.4 grandchildren.

Despite no income restrictions, 98% of families served are living in poverty.

Many grandparents have underlying health conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.

Let’s applaud the resilience and love of these grandparents! 🙌 If you know someone who could benefit from PHG, spread the word. Together, we can make a difference! 🌟
