If you’re a child of the ‘90s, the voice of Peter Lorre may sound familiar to you. The character of Ren Höek from Nickelodeon’s animated series, Ren and Stimpy, was inspired by Lorre.

Posted @withregram • @classicsnippets The ‘Pastoral Symphony’ from “Fantasia” (1940).
⠀
In this segment, there was originally a scene showing stereotyped Black assistant centaurs shining the hooves of white centaurs. The most prominent of them was named Sunflower, who had an extremely stereotypical look: hoop earrings, exaggerated red lips, and wild hair. In 1969, when the film was re-released, they removed it by making an abrupt cut at this point. Since 1990, the scene has been included, but zoomed in so that it only shows the white centaur filing her own nails. This clip is from that version.
⠀
A lot of people are now reclaiming Sunflower the Centaurette; she has gained a large following and is featured often in internet fan art. Artists have created works in which her appearance is kindly redesigned and made to look more realistic.
