BREAKING: NEWS:
6 dead, at least 10 hurt in Sacramento mass shooting: Police.
At least 16 people were shot, six fatally, early Sunday in downtown Sacramento, California, and police said no suspects were in custody.
The Sacramento Police Department said several streets in downtown Sacramento just blocks from the state Capitol building and the Golden 1 Center where the Kings NBA team plays were closed as officers responded to the gun violence. The conditions of the victims were not immediately known, police said.
The shooting came just several hours after one person was killed and 10 people were injured when gunfire erupted at an outdoor concert in Dallas, Texas.
The Sacramento shooting broke out about 2 a.m. near the corner of 10th and K Street in a popular nightlife area, Sacramento Police Chief Kathy Lester said at a news conference.
Lester said police officers were in the area and heard the gunshot.
"We had a large crowd in the area. We don't know if it was part of a club or an event," Lester said.
She said officers immediately responded and began providing medical aid to victims.
Lester said six people were fatally shot and another 10 were wounded and taken to hospitals.
Lester asked for the public's help in identifying the suspect or suspects involved in the shooting, saying no one was in custody.

Community activist Berry Accius of Voice of the Youth said he arrived at the scene at about 2:30 a.m. after a city council member called him about the shooting.
"It was just horrific," Accius told ABC affiliate station KXTV in Sacramento. "Just as soon as I walked up you saw a chaotic scene, police all over the place, victims with blood all over their bodies, folks screaming, folks crying, people going, 'Where is my brother?' Mothers crying and trying to identify who their child was."
Will Smith Resigns from Motion Picture Academy.
Actor Will Smith resigned his membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Friday, saying he is “heartbroken” by his actions during Sunday’s Oscar ceremony, when we walked on stage at the Dolby Theatre and smacked comedian Chris Rock in the face.
In a statement first reported by Variety, Smith acknowledged receiving a disciplinary notice from the Academy and said he will “fully accept any and all consequences for my conduct.”
“My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful and inexcusable,” he said. “The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance and global audiences at home.
“I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived other nominees and winners of their opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work. I am heartbroken. I want to put the focus back on those who deserve attention for their achievements and allow the Academy to get back to the incredible work it does to support creativity and artistry in film.
“So, I am resigning from membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science, and will accept any further consequences the board deems appropriate. Change takes time and I am committed to doing the work to ensure that I never again allow violence to overtake reason.”
Smith, 53, has been at the center of a firestorm of criticism since his actions during Sunday night’s Oscar ceremony. Rock was on stage at the Dolby Theatre to present an award when he made a joke referencing Smith’s wife — actress Jada Pinkett Smith — and her bald head. Pinkett Smith suffers from the hair-loss condition alopecia.
Will Smith walked onto the stage and smacked Rock in the face, then returned to his seat and twice shouted at Rock to “keep my wife’s name out of your (expletive) mouth.”
Smith was allowed to remain at the ceremony,

VIEWERS OPINION:
The Academy should be held responsible for Will Smith's actions tonight at the Oscars ceremony.
The Oscars should have never invited Chris Rock to be a presenter of an award due to his comments regarding the transexual community earlier this year.
The Academy should be apologizing to Will Smith because
if Chris Rock had not been invited this incident wouldn't have occurred.
