John 8:1-11

The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery to Jesus. He said to them, "Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." When they were gone, Jesus said to the woman, "Has no one condemned you? Neither do I condemn you. Go your way, and don't make this mistake again."

This is one of the most beautiful act of love of Jesus. This non-judgmental attitude of Jesus is precisely what professional psychologists have found from experience to be BENEFICIAL in our RELATIONSHIP with others. If you do not have the desire of helping those who have committed mistakes - STOP judging or even correcting them. Avoid judging a person if you really want to help. Help them carry themselves with dignity by making them realize their faults. To judge, condemn or criticize may be one of the worst of all sins. Let the LOVE OF GOD be the STANDARD of our judgment. Condemn the sin not the sinner (cf. Kidlings). Let us remember that everytime we judge YOU FACE the same judgement!!! Every act of evil and good has a ripple effect, thus let us be conscious in choosing what is GOOD.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, let me remember your divine justice and seek to always discern and do your will that we may always testify to Your goodness and love. Please enter into the dark places of my heart and heal me. Zeal my heart with Your love that I may never forget that You have redeemed me.
Amen

Laetare is the first word — meaning “rejoice” — in the Latin text. On Laetare Sunday (as similarly with the Third Sunday of Advent’s Gaudete Sunday) the Church expresses hope and joy in the midst of our Lenten fasts and penances. Call it pink — or, more fittingly, rose — this change in color indicates a glimpse of the joy that awaits us at Easter, just before we enter into the somber days of Passiontide.

Matthew 5:17-19

Jesus said, "I have come not to abolish the law but to fulfill it. Until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter of the law will pass away until all is accomplished. Therefore, whoever breaks the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven."

In this Gospel, Jesus is telling us that TEACHING and FULFILLING the LAW, even the least Commandment, is beneficial. LOVE makes the world go round. In this sense, even the most LEAST and SIMPLE ACT of LOVE and that can be considered unimportant is still ESSENTIAL and of great importance. Love must be cherished everyday (married life, family, friendship, etc.). It is like a house that needs maintenance otherwise it will fall into ruins. Anyone who LOVES will FULFILL God's law easily, even with delight. Authentic Love follows the law without even thinking about the law (Kindlings). Having LOVE as the MOTIVATION of all our actions not only help us make into Heaven but will win us friends (people) who will follow us in Heaven thru our example.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, Your coming in us brought fulfillment of the law. For us not to forget it, You wrote the law of love in our hearts. May I love others and thus bring Your law of love to perfection within me.
Amen

Luke 4:24-30

Jesus told them, "There were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah when the sky was closed for three and a half years and a severe famine spread over the entire land. It was to none of these that Elijah was sent, but only to the widow in Zarephath in the land of Sidon. Again, there were many lepers in Israel during the time of Elisha the prophet; yet not one of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian."

Today's Gospel, Jesus invited His own hometown people to consider that God loved people of other races and nations besides their own. Indeed true love diffuses. It knows no race, differences or status. For authentic LOVE binds itself freely. God owes no special favors to all of us. He loves us not because we are lovable but because HE IS LOVE. All grace is a pure gift given to us because He loves us FREELY. No one has any hold on God. His love is always undeserved. No strings attached. His love is eternal and immeasurable, and that's what makes it priceless and precious (cf. Kidlings). To understand God's ways, we have to set ourselves apart from others by taking the narrow path of loving (JOY) Jesus, Others, and last Yourself. His love is limitless and for this we are HUMBLED.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, You love all people with equal dignity, and You call me to be a witness of that love. Help me to respect and accept all human life as You accept and respect me. Through my love for them in Your name and through Your ways I can make You known.
Amen

John 2:13-25

Jesus made a whip out of cords and drove them all out of the temple area, with the sheep and oxen, and spilled the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables, and to those who sold doves he said, "Take these out of here, and stop making my Father's house a marketplace." His disciples recalled the words of scripture, Zeal for your house will consume me.

Today's Gospel gives us the dramatic account of Jesus' cleansing the Temple of its merchants and money changers. This is followed by a PREDICTION of His Death and Resurrection. Through His ZEAL and His passionate LOVE for God's house, Jesus fulfills the word of the Old Testament - "It is the zeal for your house that has consumed me" (Psalm 69:9). This Gospel shows us the path to interior PURIFICATION mirrored by the PASCHAL MYSTERY. For Jesus gives us the example and the KEY to our own purification. We must DIE to ourselves to HAVE LIFE by casting out the profit of material world in favor of the TREASURE of HEAVEN. Through Jesus' unfailing example of self emptying, He taught us how to live by choosing a RADICAL way of life by putting God as the only priority. Putting God first in our lives, we become the TEMPLE of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, You have brought us to the full knowledge that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Let me not be separated from You that I may live according to Your ways and be worthy at the end of my day to dwell in Your house.
Amen

Luke 15:11:32

"The eldest son said to his father, 'Look, all these years I served you and not once did I disobey your orders; yet you never gave feast to celebrate. But when your son returns who squandered your money, you butcher the fatted calf!' The father said, 'My son, you are here with me; everything I have is yours. But now we must celebrate and rejoice, because your brother was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.'"

Chapter 15 of Luke's Gospel has been called "the Gospel within the Gospel." This is the ESSENCE of the Good News about our Heavenly Father. The parable reminds us that we have a God Who welcomes sinners and forgives their sins when they return to Him with genuine contrition, resolved to reform. The two brothers in the parable of the prodigal son had lesson to learn. The first needed to learn that His Father's Love was UNCONDITIONAL and the best place to be was in His Father's house. The older brother needed to learn that HUMILITY, Mercy and Compassion were of greater importance than his righteousness. (Boureau). LENT allows us to experience God's unconditional LOVE. We need to be humble and accept that we have sinned in order for us to GO BACK to the Father.

Prayer
Our Father, forgive me for not using properly the blessings You are giving me. For always seeking pleasure in this life instead of looking forward to be in union with You. Remind me always that my home is with You.
Amen

Matthew 20:17-28

Jesus said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, the great ones make their authority over them felt. But it shall not be so among you. Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave. Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many."

The Gospel describes how ambitious and power crazy James and his brother John. They sought the help of their mother to recommend them to Jesus for they desire to be chosen as the closest friend of Jesus when He establish His Messianic Kingdom after ousting the Romans. But it seems that it is not the right time to ask for it, since Jesus had just PREDICTED His PASSION and DEATH for the third time. In this Gospel, Jesus is asking for FAITHFULNESS. What He wants to see in us is our capacity to serve without wanting for any reward even if it means giving up one's own dream and life. For what makes them GREAT is the humble Spirit of Service. Do not forget that human recognition is passing, it does not even last a lifetime. Put our gaze on what God can do for us if we follow His will by loving and serving the least, the last and the lost among us.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, I pray that You help me to be humble. Let me put aside my desire for superiority, because if I do this I will ignore You and look down on my brothers and sisters. Help me to keep this in mind that I may Love You.
Amen

Luke 6:36-38

Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back.

The Season of LENT is a time of MERCY. The Father who is merciful is ready to forgive anyone who asks for pardon, no matter how big the sin is. He would have forgiven Judas if he had asked for forgiveness. (Problem is that Judas cannot forgive himself of the sin he has committed to his Master). Be GRATEFUL for God has been merciful to us, as our gratitude to HIM, we too must be merciful and forgiving. For the Father's Mercy is the MEASURE of His Disciples' mercy. When Jesus asks for mercy, He expects us to STOP judging, and condemning but START FORGIVING. Let us not justify the wrong things we are doing instead do what is beneficial to others. God is asking us to be merciful and GENEROUS in forgiving. We are not merely to seek our own salvation. Jesus asks us to reach out and share our God-given gifts with others. Let us not forget, NO one gets into Heaven alone - we must always BRING a friend!

Prayer
Lord Jesus, You have asked me to be merciful and have taught me what mercy means. Help me to follow Your example that I may be merciful as You are merciful. Let me be grateful by being merciful to others.
Amen

Matthew 5:43-48

Jesus said: "You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father."

The Gospel gives us the Christian ethics of personal relationship by LOVING one's enemies and showing one's love by totally forgiving and praying for them. What makes CHRISTIANS different from others is the way we LOVE. True Christians treat others with KINDNESS and MERCY even if they do not deserve it. Christians has no personal enemies for we treat others as true brothers and sisters. As Christians, let us choose to LOVE our enemies because Jesus loved them enough to die for them. Loving our enemies do not mean approving of their sins, it just means BELIEVING that God created them with a GOOD PURPOSE. Considering that God's redeeming grace is meant for them as well. Create an environment as one family in which we can live peacefully with one another. Sin darkened the Divine image God has bestowed on us. But through the POWER of His own Death and Resurrection our life with Him is restored. LIVE your life worthy of God's Redemption! PRAY for those with whom you are experiencing difficulties and do an act of charity for them.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, I thank you for Your radical message of love by loving my enemies. Do not allow me to be complacent, instead let me be an active witness of Your love so that the world will believe in You.
Amen

Bishop Martyr
Matthew 5:20-26

Jesus said, "When you are offering your gift at the altar, if you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother or sister, then come offer your gift."

For Jesus, JUSTIFICATION or SANCTIFICATION is a GRACE from God freely given. Man's role is one of cooperating with that grace by being FAITHFUL to it. Thus, it is very necessary that our WORSHIP must be clear of any hatred or selfish interest. For any unwillingness to forgive leads to resentment in the heart and ultimately destroys lives and relationships. If you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift and RECONCILE with him/her. By reconciling with those who hate us we strengthen our bond with God who has forgiven us. Our gift will be USELESS if we have consciously wounded or broken the bond with those God has given us. A proud soul has no place in God's heart, unless he or she let go of itself and take the road to HUMILITY. Let us protect our dignity as children of God, project our true self inside and out. Let us not tolerate duplicity - if you love JESUS you will LOVE the people whom HE has given Himself until death.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, help me to be true to myself that I may be true to You. Let my offering rise up to You as I ask for forgiveness for the sins I have committed while forgiving also those who offended me.
Amen

Peter Damian, Bishop and Doctor of the Church
Luke 11:29-32

Jesus said, "This generation is an evil generation; it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it, except the sign of Jonah. Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation . . . there is something greater than Solomon here. At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation and condemn it, because at the preaching of Jonah they repented."

Since there had been many false prophets and false messiahs in the past, the Jewish religious leaders demanded that Jesus should show some MESSIANIC SIGNS and miracles. Thus, Jesus warned these religious leaders that they would be condemned on the Day of Judgment by the people of Nineveh and by the Queen of Sheba from the South. CHRIST is GREATER than Jonah, He is greater than death. This should inspire our faith and confidence in Christ. All things are under His dominion except one: our free will. Thus we need to accept Him as our Savior and Lord by letting HIM REIGN in our Hearts and Souls. Thus, the way to approach Jesus is by nourishing the spirit of Love, Mercy and Compassion towards all especially the poor the least, the last and the lost - a sincere intention to follow God wherever He leads us.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, help me to recognize the signs of your presence in my life. Help me to appreciate the great gifts of grace through the sacraments and to make the most of every opportunity to receive them.
Amen
