Greaves Electric joins Ather, Ola on green OEMs’ IPO bandwagon despite market share gap

Greaves Electric is following in the footsteps of market leader Ola Electric, which had completed a successful public issue last year. Also, Ather Energy, currently at the fourth position in the electric two wheeler (e2w) pecking order, is already in the queue for an IPO, which is expected in the current quarter.

Government's research arm to develop indigenous EV technology to cut foreign dependence

"We have launched a major program in developing the technology and components for electric vehicles or e-mobility that includes three verticals," Department of Science & Technology (DST) secretary, and chief executive of Anusandhan National Research Foundation Abhay Karandikar told ETAuto. The government's research arm, according to the top official, aims to nurture and develop a homegrown ecosystem including innovative battery technologies, power electronics and charging infrastructure.

Kinetic Engineering in ramp up mode for EVs, non-auto parts

Kinetic Engineering is revamping its business strategy by focusing on both auto and non-auto component manufacturing. It is working on 'new strategies' to increase its current revenue model.

These include investments in manufacturing gearboxes for the solar industry and development of a special nylon coating. The company is also planning to expand production capacity for gearboxes and chassis used in its E-Luna moped.

Maruti Suzuki sees revival in demand for hatchbacks, sedans

Maruti Suzuki is seeing revival in demand for the hatchback and sedan segments, according to Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales. The sedan segment, which has been underperforming in recent months with a limited product portfolio and growing demand for SUVs, is also gaining traction. Maruti has over 20,000 pending bookings for the Dzire and has recorded a 4% year-on-year growth in the sedan segment. “While sedans may not be doing well, Maruti has performed well,” he added.

Croc EV enters light cargo space to solve 2-wheeler loading woes

Developed by two engineers who had formerly worked in Ashok Leyland, the electric Croc has two wheels in front and one behind as part of a deliberate strategy to balance loads of up to 100 kg. Among the investors in this project is Vinod Dasari, former MD of Ashok Leyland who also had a stint as CEO of Royal Enfield. Croc EV recently received ARAI approval and will hit the roads this month.

Mahindra & Mahindra reports 18% surge in December 2024 auto sales at 41,424 units

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M Ltd.) reported a 16% rise in overall sales for December 2024, reaching 69,768 units. This growth was driven by strong performance in both the utility vehicle and commercial vehicle segments, as well as positive trends in the farm equipment sector.

Bajaj Auto reports 15% decline in December sales at 1,62,420 units

Bajaj Auto Ltd. reported a marginal (1%) year-over-year decrease in total vehicle sales, including exports, for December 2024. This amounted to 3,23,125 units sold, compared to 3,26,806 units in December 2023. While overall sales decreased marginally, domestic sales saw 15% drop, offset by a significant rise in exports.

Electric two wheeler sales up by a third in 2024, market doubled in just two years

The current year also witnessed several upheavals, as some erstwhile market leaders faded into oblivion, legacy two wheeler OEMs raced ahead at remarkable speed, product prices came down from previous highs and the subsidy being given by the government was drastically reduced. In 2024, India’s electric two wheeler (e2w) market continued to race ahead, with sales growing by nearly a third over the previous year. But the growth rate was slower compared to 2023, albeit on a larger base.
