REPEAT’S 2022 REVIEW: 20 STANDOUT PROJECTS THIS YEAR 💿

A lot has happened in 2022. There’ve been 3 prime ministers (one outlasted by a lettuce). The Lionesses brought home the Euros. We all watched Matt Hancock munching a cow’s a**s – and kind of enjoying it. Queen Liz kicked the bucket, and Kanye finally lost the plot.

Fortunately, beneath all the chaos, musicians and artists carried on doing their thing. At this time of year, we get to reflect on all the incredible talent and art that surfaced over the past 12 months.

For the first of our end of year lists, the REPEAT team put their heads together to come up with 20 musical projects from 2022. They include albums, EPs, mixtapes, compilations – but they are all projects that feel particularly special.

Head to the website to have a read, and see if any of your favourites made our list. Or maybe you’ll come across a new obsession that passed you by. Link in bio and on our story.

GET TO KNOW: KID APOLLO

Brixton-based trio kid apollo are making music for the misled generation. Offering moments of contemplation through their lo-fi discography, the R&B-inspired artists have developed a sound that embraces everyone’s vulnerabilities, and unlike many of their contemporaries, music continues to be an outlet for their own feelings.

Their latest EP, ‘u the real star’, is the three piece’s most sophisticated to date. Today, they released a deluxe edition featuring the folk-infused new single ‘btw.’

To mark the milestone, we spoke with kid apollo about the brilliant new EP, their favourite house party tunes and the best takeaway spots around Brixton.

GRAB THESE GIFTS: BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FOR UNDER ÂŁ100

’Tis the season to start panicking about what to buy your loved ones for Christmas. Those lynx sets you’ve stockpiled from previous birthdays to pass on to your brother have run out, and besides, he’s well into his mid-thirties. It’s time you looked elsewhere and not only gift this Christmas, but gift great. How do you get your boyfriend to smell better without offending him? How do you get your girlfriend to wear garms that you blatantly want for yourself? What do you get your football-loving father that isn’t a novelty item from his club’s shop? Or, if you’re looking to gift yourself this Christmas, here are some ideas that should ease any yuletide anxiety.

GET TO KNOW: AVA ZARATE

“Hailing from West London, Ava Zarate is a singer, songwriter and producer who started making waves from a surprisingly young age. Radio plays from Gilles Peterson and playlist support from Gorillaz thrusted her into the spotlight, and after a short hiatus, the multifaceted artist is back on the scene with a new single, “O Girl”. Trading the bossa nova flare of previous projects for a more contemporary hybrid of trap & R&B, the track sees Zarate speaking from a place of vulnerability that isn't replicated by many musicians who share her age.”
