THREE-YEAR CLINICAL OUTCOMES IN GEOGRAPHIC ATROPHY
An Analysis of 18,712 Patient Eyes
Shughoury, Aumer MD; Boucher, Nick BS; Aggarwal, Nitika BS; Ciulla, Thomas A. MD
Retina 45(2):p 188-197, February 2025
Eyes with geographic atrophy were retrospectively analyzed over 36 months. Mean visual acuity declined by two to three lines. Baseline age and visual impairment correlated with rate of decline. Presence of neovascular age-related macular degeneration in the fellow eye was associated with a 2-fold higher risk of exudative conversion.

FLUID RESOLUTION WITHOUT SHORTENING INJECTION INTERVAL DURING SUBRETINAL FLUID–TOLERATING TREATMENT IN NEOVASCULAR AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION
Lee, Ji Hyun MD; Park, Sang Min MD; Kim, Jae Hui MD
Retina 45(2):p 178-187, February 2025
During the subretinal fluid–tolerating treatment for neovascular age-related macular degeneration, a substantial proportion of patients exhibited resolution of fluid without shortening the injection interval. A reduced amount of residual fluid during the treatment course is closely associated with fluid resolution.

MACULAR CHANGES IN ADULTS WITH HISTORY OF PREMATURE BIRTH
Cox, Jacob T. MD, MPhil; Knapp, Austen N. MD; Chen, Cindy BA; Baynes, Kimberly MSN, RN, CRNO; Burton, Danielle BA; Kaiser, Peter K. MD; Srivastava, Sunil K. MD; Rachitskaya, Aleksandra V. MD
Retina 45(2):p 171-177, February 2025
This is the largest published series of optical coherence tomography-angiography data for adults with history of premature birth. Compared with controls, premature-birth adults have smaller, more irregularly shaped foveal avascular zones, lower macular vessel density, flatter foveal pits, a decreased macular cube average thickness, and increased central subfield thickness-to-cube average thickness ratio.

MACULAR VOLUME SCAN AS A MARKER OF ANGIOGRAPHIC UVEITIC RETINAL VASCULITIS
A Retrospective Longitudinal Study
Alapati, Akhila MD, MBA; Kherani, Saleema MD, MPH; Begaj, Tedi MD; Janetos, Timothy M. MD, MBA; Zhang, Kevin MD, PhD; Koreishi, Anjum MD; Goldstein, Debra A. MD
Retina 45(1):p 147-153, January 2025
This study found a significant correlation between optical coherence tomography macular thickness near the arcades and vasculitis on fluorescein angiogram in posterior pole and periphery. While optical coherence tomography and fluorescein angiogram are not interchangeable, these results allow monitoring of treatment response between angiograms.

Retina 45(1):p 141-146, January 2025
In pediatric patients undergoing examination under anesthesia, sub-Tenon triamcinolone injection has a favorable safety profile. It showed low incidence of intraocular pressure elevation (4.9% mild, 2.4% moderate responders), with no cases of glaucoma diagnosis or need for treatment or surgery.

TIME-COURSE RETINAL CIRCULATION CHANGES IN EYES WITH CENTRAL RETINAL ARTERY OCCLUSION USING LASER SPECKLE FLOWGRAPHY
Tanaka, Shin MD, PhD; Soga, Naoki MD; Hirono, Kazushi MD; Okawa, Kazuyoshi MD; Chin, Jacob Y. H. MD; Kitahata, Shohei MD, PhD; Inoue, Tatsuya MD, PhD; Maruyama-Inoue, Maiko MD, PhD; Kadonosono, Kazuaki MD, PhD
Retina 45(1):p 133-140, January 2025
Laser speckle flowgraphy showed that the retinal circulation improved significantly within 1 month and younger patients had better improvement in the retinal circulation in eyes with central retinal artery occlusion. The baseline best-corrected visual acuity and retinal circulation within 1 month were correlated with the final best-corrected visual acuity.

EVALUATING LARGE LANGUAGE MODELS ON THEIR ACCURACY AND COMPLETENESS
Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors and Their Ocular Toxicities
Edalat, Camellia BA; Kirupaharan, Nila BS; Dalvin, Lauren A. MD; Mishra, Kapil MD; Marshall, Rayna BS, BA; Xu, Hannah; Francis, Jasmine H. MD; Berkenstock, Meghan MD
Retina 45(1):p 128-132, January 2025
This study investigated the accuracy and completeness of three different large language models on immune checkpoint inhibitor ocular toxicities. The results showed that the chatbots were highly accurate and complete in their responses and did not significantly differ from each other.

FACTORS DEFINING DENSITY OF RETINAL MACROPHAGE-LIKE CELLS DISPLAYED WITH OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY
Maltsev, Dmitrii S. MD, DSc; Kulikov, Alexei N. MD, DCs; Gorlova, Arina S. MD; Vasiliev, Alexander S. MD
Retina 45(1):p 117-127, January 2025
Retinal macrophage-like cell density correlates with axial length, refractive error, choroidal thickness, age, and status of the vitreoretinal interface. The latter directly defines macrophage-like cell density, although axial length may play a basic role.
