Anjana Murder. What happened so far. By: Ranjeet Kumar
You know guys, today I feel frustrated. It is now 9th day since 16-year old Anjana's mutilated dead body was found, and there is no hint of justice from the Bihar police.
Do you know in what condition her dead body was found on 6th January? Let me tell you.
She was lying there topless, with her top clothes completely torn. There were many stab marks all over her body.
She was lying there beheaded. Yes, her head was chopped off and was later found 5 meters away in a bush, completely acid-burnt.
One of her arms was chopped off from the shoulder. Yes, one of her hands was lying separate from her body.
Her breasts were chopped off. Yes, did you hear that?
If a girl's dead body was found in any of these conditions in any state other than Bihar, it might have been the national news in this vast country of India within 1-2 hours of finding the dead body. People from all walks of life, from every corner of the country would be expressing their anger on social media through facebook, twitter, instagram against the horrific crimes against women in the country. And, the national media would not leave this topic for even 1 minute of their coverage. Do you remember Nirbhaya? Do you remember Asifa?
BUT. ALAS! Anjana was found in Gaya, Bihar. Yes, she was NOT AN INDIAN, she was a BIHARI. Who in the country even cares about the bloody Biharis? It is just a filthy state excessively filled with dying, hungry, poor people. Why should the INDIANS even care about BIHARIS?
Okay, let it be.
You know what happened with Anjana next? You would think, ya ya, it's Bihar, they are all corrupt, police won’t arrest her rapists and murderers. Yes, we all expect that in Bihar, don't we?
Okay, let me tell you a fun and imaginary story, which after reading you will be forced to say - oh wow, so much imagination, where did I get all this imagination from? Let’s start the imaginary story. Bihar Police as expected does nothing for the first 3 days except sending Anjana’s dead body for postmortem on 6th January. No police action till 9th January and none of the media or non-Gaya public has any hint of any such incident. Patwa community to which Anjana belonged gets united to organize a massive candle march from their locality Patwa Toli to Gaya city, more than 10000 people from Patwa community and Gaya attend. Police wakes up. They take into custody Anjana’s parents and three sisters, two of them minors, 15 and 9-year olds. They torture and harass the parents and the sisters, beating them and giving them electric shocks. They force them to make a false and fabricated confession. The false story is that Anjana went with her boyfriend on 28th December and came back on 31st December night. Parents got angry seeing her with the boyfriend, so the father calls one of his friends, who is coincidentally a butcher by profession, and asks him to take her daughter somewhere during the same night. The father and the butcher friend then conspired to murder Anjana, chop off her head, burn the head with acid, chop off one of her arms, chop her breasts off, put stab marks all over her body, then throw the body, her arm, and her head in a field about 200 meters from her house. So, the parents and sisters confess this story under the torture by Gaya Police and DSP, Gaya. The same confession is taken in court in the presence of DSP. The case is solved. DSP and SSP of Gaya conduct a press conference on 10th January, and the SSP announces that it was an honor killing case and Anjana’s parents and sisters have confessed that, and the father and butcher friend are under arrest. He also adds that it is common in the Patwa community that if you marry outside your parents’ will, severe actions are taken against you, and the same happened with Anjana. Case closed. So, easy, right? No postmortem report, no forensic report, no revelation of murder location or cause of death or murder and mutilation weapon. Nothing required. Next day, they release the sisters and the mother. They come out to speak in front of whatever small number of local media were present. They reveal that the Gaya police and DSP had tortured them, beat them, and gave them electric shocks for getting their desired fabricated confessions and under threat and pressure they just gave in. But, now they want justice and the entire Patwa community stands firm with them. So, the DIG of Magadh range makes a visit to Patwa Toli and assures all of Patwa community that they will investigate more. Next day, even ADG (Law & Order) of Bihar also makes a visit to Patwa Toli and announces that now a CID team will investigate the case. Well, that’s great, right? You know, CID, the famous CID of Sony Channel, solves cases in just 1 hour episodes, right? About 3-4 newspapers and 2-3 Bihar level news channels have now begun to report about this case more frequently. Politicians also start making visits the next day, and the CID team starts their investigation. And what do they do? They come to Anjana’s house and interrogate her mother and sisters. And guess what they do? The CID team pressurizes the mother to speak the same story that Anjana came back on 31st December. She tries to deny that but they are not ready to listen anything other than that. She still denies. The mother even being so much under pressure of CID, and local police, reveals this situation to media after her interrogation by the CID. The postmortem report is still not released, till 15th January, 9 days after performing the postmortem and autopsy. Okay, I will end this funny, imaginative story here. Did you enjoy that? Can I write a novel out of it?
Well, I was kidding. The above is NOT AN IMAGINARY STORY, it’s REAL. This is what is happening in Anjana’s murder case right now. Bihar police has left no stone unturned to prove that Bihar is the most corrupt state of India. All BIHARIS are really worthy of the treatment that they get in INDIA.
Okay, now, coming back to my first line, why am I frustrated. I have been personally affected by this incident as it is my own community that is undergoing the turmoil right now. So, I have taken a keen interest in reaching out to the social media via facebook and twitter and contribute to our attempt in bringing this incident into the attention of at least so many people that in every locality of India at least one person has heard about this incident. Since 8th or 9th January, I and the Patwa youth have been sharing the stories, news articles, videos to try to sensitize our friends and followers on facebook and twitter. Although I would think that none of us is a social media superstar, someone with 10000 friends on facebook, all Patwas would have about 500 on average from their college. Patwa youth is spread across so many good colleges and universities in India that if even 50% of those 500 college FB friends of each of us share about this incident, it might have come to notice of the social media at a national level. But. ALAS! We are BIHARIS, not INDIANS!
