I had the privilege of speaking with Melanie when she was in Rochester doing a play a few years back. My favorite moment was when she said she had never thought of herself as a real songwriter until she heard Ray Charles cover this song. She had a great twinkle in her eye at that moment. Beautiful memory. Just learned she passed from the physical world on Tuesday. We'll get a few of her songs on Open Tunings this morning.
