Louder for the people in the back

To be fair, objectification and s*xualization are not the same thing. But otherwise, yes, this.

This work connects me with so many adults who’ve experienced or witnessed abuse, trauma, and consent violations in their own childhood. Who were harmed within their own families— by the very people that were charged with keeping them safe.

These foundational experiences can make it difficult to understand how to create safer, consent-conscious circumstances for your own children, when it wasn’t (and still may not be) happening for you. To this, I have to say:

Yes, it can feel difficult to stand up to that family member or your community’s ideology or to go against traditions you’ve been raised within, but YOU ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. YOUR BOUNDARIES AND INSTINCTS ARE NOT THE PROBLEM.

The “culture” and “traditions” do not need to be preserved or prioritized if they involve violating the rights, autonomy, and safety of others- especially children!

The opportunity is in front of each of us everyday to break the cycle. Let the messages on this platform,
the many resources we provide, and the fellow warriors walking alongside you in this community be a constant reminder of your “why” and the power that you have to foster healthier possibilities for the children in your world.

You can do this.

Do it unapologetically.

Language matters. Saying “females” instead of “women” dismisses their humanity.

Edit: This is of course inclusive of women of trans experience.
