OVERNIGHT RAINFALL: Another major soaking last night in the same areas that saw heavy rainfall Thursday Wednesday morning. This water is feeding rivers in the area and we're seeing spikes on the river gauges. The James River is over 11' and still rising, expected to crest near 14'. This will be a major problem for anyone interested in floating this weekend. Here's a link to river levels in the area: https://water.noaa.gov/

MORE STORMS THEN NICE: A frontal boundary will work south into Northern Arkansas Friday, but the heat will remain. Mostly sunny skies will drive afternoon temperatures back into the low to mid-90s, but the humidity levels should be running lower.

The front will remain a highway for additional storms to move along, especially Friday night into Saturday. A cluster of storms or clusters of storms are expected to push southeast out of Kansas and Northeast Oklahoma Friday night through Saturday morning. We'll have to watch for strong winds with these storms along with pockets of heavy rainfall.

The rain will wind down by noon with clouds thinning out. Saturday afternoon will become mostly sunny with some lingering heat. Mild, dry air will filter in by Sunday making for a bright day with highs below 90°.

The trough that we've seen in the East so much of this summer will once again amplify this weekend through next week. Mild, low-humidity air will press back into the Ozarks. The pattern overall looks dry, but we'll have to keep an eye on areas of clouds and showers spilling down the east side of the summer ridge to the west. Some of this cloud cover, and maybe even shower activity, could clip some of the region.

RADAR UPDATE: It's been a bumpy evening along I-44 where scattered storms have focused. Heavy rain and lightning came with reports of large hail and strong winds in the strongest storms. The largest hail report came out of Decaturville of hail up to tennis ball size. The risk of scattered storms will continue near and south of I-44 overnight, but it looks like the severe weather risk is quickly winding down.

Heavy rain remains an issue though with the risk of flash flooding where storms can persist. A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect for Wright and Texas Counties through early Friday morning.

Storms will gradually push southeast out of the area by sunrise.

STORM NORTH OF MTN. GROVE: The storms north of Mtn. Grove continue to organize (likely the most organized of all of the storms currently). It appears to be taking on supercellular characteristics as it moves southeast. So far the storm is trailing the outflow and this appears to be minimizing tornado potential. There is a tremendous amount of lightning though along with strong winds. Hail core is centered north of Dawson. Hail up to quarter size is possible.

STORM MOVING INTO SPRINGFIELD: Severe storm over Republic is will move through the south side of Springfield to Nixa and Ozark. Heavy rain, frequent lightning and hail up to quarter size is possible. Be ready for strong winds too. Winds likely gusted to 60 mph near Republic with this storm. Battlefield reported winds to 50 mph. The storm is moving east at 35 mph.

STRONG WINDS: Severe T-Storm moving into Southwest Greene County right now. Radar is picking up winds up to 60 mph between Halltown and Republic, spreading northeast. There is also likely hail up to at least quarter size just southeast of Chesapeake. The storm is tracking toward Republic.

STORM UPDATE: Cluster of severe storms continues to move along I-44 at about 40 mph. There have been reports of strong winds and hail up to ping pong ball size with some of the storms over the past couple of hours. New cells continue to pop up on the back edge of the cluster and a few isolated storms are firing along the interstate west of Springfield. One near Mt. Vernon just became severe warned and is expected to move toward south Springfield.

Storm interactions throughout the evening should help grow the activity into more of a band of storms with embedded hail producers. Damaging wind gusts could become more widespread if a line can develop and start to surge east and southeast. The tornado risk is very limited but not zero and I think it will be tied to these initial storms earlier this evening, mainly east of Springfield.
