4 DÈAD, SEVERAL INJURED
FOUR people have lost their lives, with several others injured, after a north bound Hino Light Truck carrying 18 passengers from Monze and loaded with pigs and goats, collided with an oncoming Volvo Tanker Truck in Kapiri Mposhi, Thursday morning.
The fatality occurred around 08:30 hours along the Ndola Highway at Katanino Trading Area, with the Hino Truck enroute to Kasumbalesa.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred when the driver of the Hino Truck, Fex Muleya, 32, of Mooyo Village in Pemba, attempted to overtake improperly and collided with the oncoming Tanker Truck.
Police Public Relations Officer, Rae Hamoonga, notes that two male passengers lost their lives on the scene, with the other two dying whilst receiving treatment at Kapiri Mposhi Hospital.
The deceased passenger from the Hino Truck have been named as Morton Chonga, aged 35, Teddy Chibele, 30, Coin Hamwiza, 45 and a yet to be identified male.
Meanwhile, those who sustained serious injuries are Mwiinga Kiphinedy Mwiinga, aged 27, Boyd Kantin, 27, Mudenda Mapenzi, 30, Chizala Pesi, 36 and Trail Hamwiza, aged 40.
Other injured adult persons of yet to be ascertained age are Munenda Kizito, Joyce Milimo, Chris Lubasi and Tryford Hakunyu, while two unidentified females are currently unconscious and receiving medical attention.
Hamoonga notes that all injured individuals are from Monze and have been admitted to Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital for treatment.
He adds that the driver of the Tanker, Kennedy Chiluba, 36, of Ndola and three other passengers from the Hino truck escaped unhurt.
By broadcast time, the driver of the Hino Truck was reported to be at large, with efforts underway to locate and bring him to justice.
