Some screen shots from music videos I created for Michelle Garcia and Aunty Linno on the South Coast. The songs use Yuin language to share culture and pay tribute to those who fought for self determination and land rights in the region. The videos are launching amongst NAIDOC Week.

These wonderful women want their community to embrace local indigenous history, language and culture. They're overcoming indifference and resistance through music that touches the heart and moves the hips.

I was invited to create some music videos and photos to help bring their vision to life. Stay tuned for the videos, which are launching as part of NAIDOC Week.

Thank you Michelle Garcia and Aunty Linno.

An innovator wants to create enormous impact on the world. Their past success has been built on a philosophy of 'move fast and breaks things' or 'preserve the party at all costs'. Then they get access to a new tool with vast, unintended consequences latent within it. What happens next?

The introduction of AI into the human story over the past year has left us in a 'cliffhanger' moment - waiting with bated breath to see how the next episode changes our relationship with each other, our environment, our technologies and ourselves.

The Human-Centric Artificial Intelligence Centre was opened at UTS this week with a mission to place ethics, values and humanity at the heart of the both the process and outcomes of the AI revolution.

We were brought on by Heath Campanaro of Neon Dynamo to capture it.

Nothing says 'the future' like purple.

As a filmmaker, turning up to shoot a location cold, without a recce, is fraught with anxiety. And so it was this week, as we headed out to shoot at a medical training facility near Port Botany.

As we messed around with the available lighting we discovered these beautiful purple lights that are used to reveal spilled liquids in the mock ward. Combined with a couple of our own lamps, it was a happy accident that provided the perfect ambience to showcase Vantari VR's immersive simulation for healthcare.

Much thanks to Leo Stevens and UOW ICRU (Innovation and Commercial Research Unit), and Tina van Weelderen and Antonio Covelo at Vantari VR.

An exciting new story is on the way, about very smart people who worked out how to recycle coffee cups by turning them into asphalt for new roads. A local circular economy project in Western Sydney. Can't wait to share.

Thank you Julia Frith and UNSW Knowledge Exchange.

Do you consider your culture to be customer-centric?

How often are those customers a literal voice in the room?

At a major company conference this year, the leaders at a2 Milk wanted their message to cut through and land with their people.

In the way, was the need to win their attention, care and trust.

Boutique brand agency Torch, engaged Who & Why Media to collaborate and produce these consumer insights in style that felt direct and authentic.

The resulting video content made those key takeaway messages more engaging, sticky and contagious.

Frank Soto has dedicated his life to pursuing his insatiable curiosity and building a remarkable design engineering company.

As the firm's 25th anniversary approached he wanted to mark the occasion in a way that captured the essence of the Soto Consulting Engineers brand, deepened his relationship with clients, and enriched the culture for existing and potential talent.

This was not the time for cliched corporate communications.

Frank engaged Who & Why Media and we led him through our bespoke storyfinding process. Deep, immersive interviews were distilled into a compelling narrative, and visual motifs were developed to weave 40 years of history into a singular experience.

We engaged a wonderfully talented team including Cinematographer Glenn Hanns, Production Designer Irma Calabrese, and a stable of brilliant actors to bring three distinct eras to life.

Frank trusted our vision with the budget to create something special. We believe the resulting film not only delivers on the brief, but is one of our finest productions amongst more than 1000 films we have created over our own 12 year history.

Special thanks to Ed Birchall from Vivo Digital for connecting us to the opportunity and for his invaluable creative and strategic input across the project.

Leveraging heritage to frame the future.

Since spending most of 2011 creating content for CBA's centenary, we've developed a specialty in visionary histories - helping organisations take advantage of major milestones to build credibility around their current strategies.

Until now, we've never attempted historical recreations. Too time-consuming, too costly, I thought. But, when interviewing Frank Soto for the 25th anniversary of his engineering firm we were genuinely moved by the connection between the insatiable curiosity of his childhood and the thriving company he went on to build.

With wonderful collaborators Glenn Hanns (Cinematography-Colour Grade) and Irma Calabrese (Production Design) and a group of relatively inexperienced actors, we were able to bring the 1970s and 1990s to life.

We weren't chasing historical accuracy - just a 'look and feel' that helped layer meaning, emotion and impact to Frank’s amazing interview.

The film launches in a couple of weeks, but in the meantime, here are some still frames from the ‘70s.

A special thank you to Vivo Digital for getting me involved and their invaluable creative consultation.

Talk about culture shock. Transforming academics into entrepreneurs is a radical undertaking, but UNSW is committed to 'spinning out' more of their world class IP through their own people.

This short case study film with Igor from Infinity Avionics was so much fun to shoot. Out of space via Canberra.

I wrote, directed, produced, shot and edited it (and managed to avoid having my drone shot down).

How do you source your testimonials? The brilliant team at C7EVEN auditioned potential brand evangelists by running a competition that required a video entry. The authenticity in the resulting films speak for themselves.

Who & Why's Chief Storyteller, Simon Dikkenberg, was brought on to shoot and edit these salt-of-the-earth stories.

Here's some recent work we created for Grand Banks - the iconic boating brand.

Thank you to Louis C Brandt (DOP) and the teams at Big Advantage and Aerial Marine for an awesome collaboration.

The amazing documentary GIRLS CAN'T SURF shone a light on the shameful treatment of the women who competed on surfing's world tour back in the 1980s.

The stand out character was Pauline Mencer who battled childhood tragedy, rheumatoid arthritis, rampant misogyny and homophobia to finally claim a World Title in 1993. Her prizemoney for that accomplishment was $0.

A GoFundMe page has raised $60,000 to honour Pauline's achievement and they are now raising the money to build a statue of Pauline at Bondi Beach.

https://www.facebook.com/GirlsCantSurf/videos/544111947200342/

Take the time to watch the doco (It's on STAN and iTunes) and you'll agree she deserves the statue. We contributed to the prize money campaign and we will be contributing to this one too.

This project was such a pleasure. Compelling characters, exquisite setting, and a product with animal welfare at its core.

Sometimes our story-finding process demands a deep dive and sometimes our clients serve it up on a plate during the initial brief. Belinda Hall knew she had gold with one of the winners of Maxton Fox's student design competition. It was great fun working with her, Meg Dortmans, Danielle Dunsford, and Sasha Alexander from Western Sydney University, to capture the big reveal and a young woman's dreams becoming actualised.
