New episode alert! This is the one we recorded while we were together IRL and had the best time. It's a deep-dive into disclosing your disability and the details about it to a person you're newly dating. Give it a listen and let us know your take.

Kyle: Ultimately it’s your business whether or not you tell someone anything about your life. Also, if it’s someone you’re dating, it’s like they should know. I mean, yes, it’s your decision. Yes, it’s ultimately up to you. I just feel like if you’re willing to spend the night with someone, then you should be able to tell them a little bit about yourself.
Emily: Yeah. Okay. If you’re just hooking up with a person, if it’s casual, whatever.
Kyle: Yeah, that’s fine. It’s no one’s business.
Emily: If it’s a serious relationship, I feel like, have these conversations, especially because I want to know early on if the person that I’m meeting is the type of person who I can have that kind of conversation with. An open, honest conversation about something more personal.
Ableism. It's everywhere all the time. Let's talk about encountering it and confronting it.

Emily: Am I a bad advocate? Because I was literally presented with the ableism that I’m fighting against, and I’m over here like, I’m just going to let it ride.
Kyle: You got to pick your battles, if I may quote two podcasters.
Emily: Who said that?
Kyle: We did, can you believe it?
Emily: Wow! We're so smart.
Kyle: All the way back in 2016.
Time for some real-talk about disability and bodily autonomy. Spoiler alert: this podcast is pro-choice, no exceptions, ever.
We know our outlook about the status of Roe v. Wade in this clip is bleak, but truthfully, we're worried. This is a major human rights issue, which means its a major disability rights issue, and we're not gonna keep quiet about it.

Emily: Disabled people are rarely afforded bodily autonomy to begin with and then they’re saying, "Hey, we’re just going to take this other form of bodily autonomy away from you, but really we’re doing it because we’re good people and we care about disability. Don’t you see? That’s why we don’t want people to have abortions because we want more people just like you. Except no, we don’t. Because as soon as they’re born, we’re like, 'Oh well, screw them.'"
Kyle: I mean, I was going to wait until later in the episode to go on this rant, but the segue is just too good. If people who claim to be pro-life were, as they claim to be, we would have adequate access to contraception in this country. We would have adequate paternity leave and I use that term to mean both parents in this country. We would have adequate sex education. The funding of Planned Parenthood would never be a political football. We’d have laws protecting abortion rights, which we don’t. We have one Supreme Court decision that’s going to go away.
Breaking news: we're disabled people who also have other external interests beyond talking about disability!

Emily: But I really think that because we have a disability podcast, we are disabled people and not disabled people who also have other external interests beyond talking about disability. Like, can you imagine if tomorrow we changed this from The Accessible Stall to like The Movie Theater and just started talking about movies that we watch? Everyone would be like, “What happened? You’re a whole person with interests?”
Kyle: Yeah, you’re right. And in the context of the show, it doesn’t bother me because this is something that I love to do with you. When it’s your whole life, that gets tired. It gets annoying really quick. I’m already annoyed at myself when I ache like an 80 year old man at 9:00 in the morning. I don’t need it externally from the world too. No, I mean, come on. You know. You know.

Emily: Y'all, we've made this video about 10 times already, but in all seriousness, we just wanted to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for tuning in, for listening. And most importantly, talk for a second about what the theme of today is.
Kyle: Yeah. It's fighting for your rights post-COVID, and we don't really think we're there yet.
Emily: We're definitely not there yet. But in The Accessible Stall, we're all about fighting for our rights all the time. So we're celebrating and then tomorrow, we're getting right back to work.
Kyle: Yes. Big things are coming in 2022, like a lot of episodes.
Emily: Thanks so much for listening.
Kyle: Bye.
