BAFTA in Memoriam - Anna Scher MBE

On Thursday 14 December, there will be a private funeral for Anna and Charles. In order to allow people to pay their respects to Anna and Charles, John and the family have arranged with the funeral directors and Father Rayner for the hearse to be outside St Silas Church on Penton Street, N1 9UL from 10:30am until 11:00am on 14th December 2023.

Rather than the kind gesture of flowers, the family are encouraging people to make a charity donation if they wish, with the selected charities being Mind and Parkinson's UK.

Anna Scher and Charles Verrall Remembrance Get Together event

Sunday 26th November 2023 - Midday to 6pm

Address - The Little Scarlett Door in Soho. 12-13 Greek St, London W1D 4DL

Dear all AST people, past and present students and friends of the theatre, on Sunday 26th November 2023 from Midday to 6pm we will have a Get Together to share some of our AST memories and mourn together the loss of Anna Scher and Charles Verrall. This event is with the blessing of John and the family that are still understandably in mourning.

If you cannot make this Remembrance Get Together, do not worry, as there will be an opportunity at the end of January 2024 at the AST birthday to celebrate the lives of Anna and Charles, more details of that will come at the start of next year.

The venue is The Little Scarlet Door in Soho, appropriately right next to Leicester Square and the theatres of the West End, where so many AST actors have performed on screen and stage thanks to the opportunity and world class education that Anna and Charles gave them.

Come and join us for a commemorative drink any time between Midday and 6pm. We are expecting people to drop in as and when they can, for an hour or so (or whatever time they wish) rather than stay the whole time. Although I am sure there will be a "hardcore" that will be there from start to finish and carry on talking about Anna and Charles for much longer into the night.

Please share far and wide so the AST family can come together at this difficult time.

It is with deep sadness that I must report that Anna Scher, the best and kindest drama teacher in the UK for the last 50 years, has passed. Joining her husband, Charles, in a better place to rest. She will be missed but never forgotten. RIP Anna Scher and Charles Verrall.
