Handel - Saul (Philharmonia Baroque Productions, recorded live):
Jason Victor Serinus , San Francisco Classical Voice: "The recording was superbly produced, recorded, edited, mixed, and mastered by PBO’s former recording engineer, David v.R. Bowles of Swineshead Productions, LLC...Auditioned in 24/192 high-resolution, Bowles's achievement captures all the nuance and color that were transmitted by First Congregational’s uniquely live, resonant, and spacious acoustic..." Handel - Arias with Avery Amereau (Philharmonia Baroque Productions)
"Editor's Choice, September 2020", Gramophone Magazine
Andrew Sammut, Early Music America: "...the recorded sound lets the listener enjoy the interplay of Handel’s writing, savor instruments doubling the voice, or zero in on an instrumental line inside the mix"

Robert and Clara Schumann lieder (Avie Records):
Hugo Shirley, Gramophone Magazine: "With fresh, engaging accounts of Robert [Schumann’s] two cycles...as well as impeccable engineering, there’s a great deal to be enjoyed in this release." Mason Bates - Mass Transmission (Delos Records):
"Critic’s Choice, December 2019", Opera News
Andrew Newsome, Voix des Artes: "A critically important voice in the chorus of artists whose contributions fostered the success of Mass Transmission is that of recording engineer David v.R. Bowles...True to his reputation, Bowles achieves this spectacularly on Mass Transmission." Poldowski (Irène Régine Wieniawska) – Art Songs (Delos Records):
Henry Vogel, Fanfare Magazine: “…the recorded sound is well-balanced and warm.”

Also, we have had LOTS of presentations for Audio Engineering Society - San Francisco Section; three in the last month alone! Pictured is our committee hangout with famed electronic music creator Suzanne Ciani (after a film showing of the documentary "Sisters With Transistors" and a Q&A session with her).

November weekend gigs are over! I enjoyed recording Volti, California Symphony (didn't take a pic), and Fresno Philharmonic. Volti performed in two locations; it was fascinating to hear how the performers adapted to two very different spaces. With Fresno Philharmonic, look out for a video of "Dances" by Anna Clyne with the amazing Inbal Segev, conducted by Rei Hotoda and filmed by Tritone Media

Just heading home after a successful Audio Engineering Society convention at Javits Center. I was one of the judges for the Student Recording Competition; in the mean time I listened to paper presentations on psychoacoustics and immersion. At NYU Steinhardt Music Technology they led a technical tour of the immersive listening studio at 370 Jay Street (where my recording of Mason Bates "Mass Transmission" was one of the featured tracks!). Not to be missed were the "envelopment" sessions (led by Thomas Lund) in the 7.4.1 playback room!
