Obviously, doing the job I do, I like words. I also LOVE Margaret Atwood.

But that aside, I honestly believe that in both our personal and professional lives, our words (and the combination in which we use them!) can help or hinder us dramatically.

I believe that if you use your words well, a word, after a word, after a word, is also

clarity
connection
persuasion (if you're trying to sell something!)
comfort.

What would you add?

I often feel that in my family we don't do Bank Holidays right. We never seem to do any of the typical things that British people are 'supposed' to do on our extra day off.

My fibro means that DIY or big excursions to the seaside are out, and as long-term vegetarians we're unlikely to be firing up the BBQ! I have a small family so we there's no big gatherings and even over Easter there's rarely a roast 🙀

But do you know what? Maybe it's OK to march to the beat of your own drum. Today I've had a lazy morning, done a bit of shopping and eaten a lolly in Lidl car park as I couldn't wait until I got home. Later we'll eat a random dinner of what we all fancy and squabble over what film to watch. We might actually manage to agree and end up watching one, if we're lucky...

I discovered recently (when I spilt a cup of tea on my new laptop) that one of the downsides of working for yourself is that you can't call the company IT department 😂

I do, however, have a very clever (but not local) adult nephew who talked me through laptop first aid. He then promptly sent me a laptop care package and is going to guide me through the process of cleaning the laptop's insides. I was not expecting the care package to be this fancy and now I'm a bit scared...

Had a lovely Bank Holiday, but obviously now I can't remember what day it is, or when the bins go out. However, I have tea and I have peonies, so it's not all bad.

The sun is out here, so I'm officially declaring that 'Toms and denim jacket season' has started. That's probably a thing that exists in my head only, but oh, hello sunshine! 🌞

I have my head down working on an interesting project today but I'm enjoying the blue skies out of the window.

I had intended to write a post to reflect on my first month of freelancing, but the Easter holidays got in the way - pic of Sheringham beach below to show why I was happily away from my laptop!

It's been a busy first month or so, and I have a lot to be grateful for:

> I've taken on two fabulous clients this month. They both do really interesting work and I've loved meeting them and finding ways to support their goals.

> My wonderful family and friends have given me so much support, sharing my posts, giving top-notch advice and celebrating my wins. My first two clients came from two of my closest friends sharing posts on social media, so sharing really is caring!

> The flexibility of self employment is just the best! I was thoroughly spoilt when I worked for the comms and PR agency Jack & Grace as they offer incredible flexible working arrangements. Nothing else on the job market could come close to this and it's part of the reason why I'm now my own boss. Setting my own hours is great for family life and also helps me manage the symptoms of fibromyalgia.

I'm excited to see what the next month brings! I have some availability later in April to take on new clients, so please do get in touch if you'd like to work with me.

One of the themes for this year's International Women's Day is 'Inspire inclusion'. I truly belive that one way to do this is through offering flexible working. I recently did some work with Jack & Grace, a very fabulous comms and PR agency. Jack & Grace offer the gold-standard of flexible working and it's wonderful. I wrote this blog about their way of working and how it helps not only me as a person with a hidden disability, but all the employees.
