Nosferatu lands at a 6.4/10 for me. A perfectly good "Stub at Home" flick... As beautiful as it is, there's nothing in the size, scope, and scale that demand a theater experience. I wouldn't be surprised if I watched this a few more times and saw that number bump up.. I just can't say you need to rush out to see it. If Vampire flicks are your thing, then it's definitely worth a watch!
Directed by Robert Eggers (The Northman, The Lighthouse, The Witch), this was a movie I had been really looking forward to. So let's get to it....
The cast is really good, aside from one moment where I'm not crazy about Aaron-Taylor Johnson.. I think he's supposed to be going for "A bit delirious", but to me, it landed as "bad drunk" 🤣. Lily Rose-Depp is absolutely tremendous in this movie, definitely the standout performance.
The cinematography, and design choices are top notch. There's a very deliberate color grading in play here that makes this movie feel black and white adjacent. This overall somber tone brilliantly showcases Egger's style.
With all of these praises I'm heaping upon this movie, you're probably thinking that we we're on the path a very high score.
And man, I absolutely wish we landed a bit higher, because it's mostly executed so well. There is great tension and terror at times, but there's other times where it's just a bit slow.. and I get the smaller moments are supposed to ratchet up the tension so you're ready to go in the 3rd act. I just don't think we needed ALL of it.With all that said, I don't think you'll regret watching this movie, and the ending is definitely strong.
Definitely be sure to check the Parental Guide on IMDB before watching it with young ones... that said, I don't think it'll really keep the attention of sub 14/15 year olds at all.
