The first woman to read a news bulletin in Hindi on BBC was Rajni Kaul. This was nearly 60 years ago and today at the age of 93 she passed away in Faridabad on Tuesday.

She was born in Peshawar and worked with All India Radio (AIR) in New Delhi before joining the Voice of America (VOA) in Washington and then BBC in London.

The Rice Bucket Challenge is an initiative that helped many people during COVID-19. However, it has been around for more than 7 years now.

It first began in 2014 founded by Manju Latha Kalanidhi, a journalist and Senior Assistant Editor at The New Indian Express. This was around the time that social media was warming up and gaining more attention. Facebook became a platform that was used to conduct digital campaigns.

Manju said, "The Ice Bucket Challenge where people were creating awareness regarding a particular disease gained a lot of attention and eventually it became a trend. This challenge was an inspiration to start Rice Bucket Challenge.”

Fahadh Faasil is all set to play the antagonist in Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rise (Part 1). The makers will unveiled his look from the film on August 28 at 10.08 am.

On August 21, the Bangalore Days actor joined the sets of the film post lockdown 2021. Directed by Sukumar, Pushpa: The Rise stars Allu Arjun, Fahadh Faasil and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles. The film will release in theatres on Christmas (December 25).

India administered 594 million Covid vaccine doses as per reports on Tuesday, August 24.

In the 18-45 age group, 2,867,784 were given the first dose while 777,822 doses were given as the second dose on the day. Cumulatively, 223,359,860 people have been given the first dose while 21,137,082 have got their second shot as well.

Saudi Arabia has allowed Indian citizens who were fully vaccinated in Saudi and then travelled to India to fly back to the country without quarantining in a third country.

Indian embassy in Riyadh Tweeted, “Embassy is pleased to inform that Saudi Authorities have announced that Indian nationals who have travelled to India after receiving both doses of the vaccine in Saudi Arabia will be able to return to the Kingdom directly without need for quarantine in a third country.”

Tek Chand carried the tri-colour as India made its way during the Opening Ceremony of Tokyo 2020 Paralympics on Tuesday at the Japan National Stadium.

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will take place between August 24 and September 5 and will feature 539 medal events across 22 sports.
