Our guest Araceli Valenzuela has been helping change the lives of young people since she herself was a kid, by empowering them to learn and to perform Mariachi.

Tucsonan local music fans probably know Eb Eberlein. We were so glad to feature a part of the story he shared with us in Episode Ten. The longer musical memory he shared with us lives up to what Leah Roseman described as her goal for interviewing a musician; it demonstrates the “breadth and depth” of a life in music. Thanks Eb!

If you've never WATCHED a podcast, this episode of Conversations with Musicians might be a good place to start. Anze Roman and Kara Talve composed the score to the TV series Prehistoric Planet. For the score, they created instruments using fossils and other items, and it's really compelling to see them played. You'll like this episode if you enjoyed our most recent episode, enjoy dinosaurs, or have fun seeing newly designed beautifully sounding instruments demonstrated. Episode Ten of Lifetimes of Listening is Available Today!

Brian and Dan talk to Leah Roseman, the host of “Conversations with Musicians” about the kinds of things you learn when you listen to the stories musicians tell. Interviews with Eb Eberlein, Alana Weising, and Daniel Alberto Rivera Castelo from the archive help us dig deeper into the question of what you learn when talking with a musician. Just as you don’t have to understand music to be moved by it, you don’t have to play an instrument to learn from the life lessons that a musician’s stories reveal.

When Kirk Hamilton of Strong Songs dives into a song that you have memories of, you end up learning about something that’s already inside of you. His episode of Tears for Fears “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” brings one back to the 1980s in an instant. The song was so well constructed that even if you don’t typically think of it as a good song, you’ll love it by the end of the episode.

She’s a masterful interviewer, and we wanted to learn from her, and to hear some of what she’s gleaned from the many conversations she’s shared.

Why do we sometimes forget things that just happened? Why do remember things clearly that occurred long ago?

If you missed April 17th’s episode of Hidden Brain, it was all about memory. The show explores why it fails us, when it works and how to build it. And If you haven’t listened to our most recent episode, it’s about the science surrounding music and memory. Here's a link to Hidden Brain's memory episode:
