UNRWA is not only dispensable; it’s disposable. It consumes 13.8 % of UNHCR’s budget while servicing 7.6 % of its population while maintaining almost twice the staff.

UNRWA spends $220, almost twice UNHCR’s $121, per refugee even though UNHCR serves a much larger population (70.8 million vs. 5.4 million).

UNRWA maintains about 23.4 times more staff per refugee compared to UNHCR.

This highlights the significant difference in staffing efficiency between the two organizations where UNHCR has 16,803 staff serving 70.8 million refugees worldwide, almost half of UNRWA’s 30,000 staff members serving less than five and a half million “refugees.”

Arab commentators claim that the emerging picture that Hamas-Gaza is at a breaking point stems from a misjudgment by leader Yahya Sinwar.

According to these experts, Sanwar gambled that there would not be a long campaign with Israel. His assessment that of this was fourfold: IDF is not built for a long war; An intervention by the "Iranian axis" which would force the IDF to divert forces from Gaza; The international community would stop the war; And the Israeli government would collapse against the backdrop of the war.

Almost 10 months since the beginning of the war, none of Sinwar's assumptions have materialized.

Sohail Kiwan, an Arab expert on Israeli affairs, says: "Hamas was wrong in its assessments regarding the IDF's inability to fight for a long time."

According to him, Hamas was prepared to fight for a maximum of three months. He adds that Hezbollah cannot enter into an all-out war due to pressures inside Lebanon, and Iran understands that entering the campaign will lead to a regional war and therefore is avoiding it.

Another expert named Jihad Harb speaks of the weakness of the international community: "Hamas' reliance on international pressure could have been realized had the October 7 attack been less severe."

The decision is expected to address the West Bank, east Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip as a single entity.
