We’ve got a new album in the works. “Ship Rock” arrives April 18th—an instrumental collision of Sam Miller’s piano and Matt Badger’s drums. Recorded in Seattle at Recreational Psychacoustics Lab, with Eric Padget capturing every note. It’s a journey. Join us.

“A Spiral” new single from Eggshells is out now 🌀

Drifting through ethereal deep-space synths and swirling guitar loops, “A Spiral” is a spectral contemplation on the gulfs that develop between people and the connections that pull them back together.

New song “Stumbling” out now!

About:

“Stumbling” was written on the heels of the global pandemic and the ensuing lockdown and erasure of life as we knew it. It was unbearably opaque when life would return and whether I’d even get to hug my parents again…it was a time of universal anxiety and dread which needs no further recounting I’m sure. But alas, in all this wild darkness, time slowed and writing came readily.

My long time friend and musical accomplice Sam Miller called with a proposition that we’d partner up to release a Matt Badger debut album (which we’d made nearly ten years prior) on a label he was creating which would become Jenny Invert Records. This offer, from one of my dearest friends and musical influences in my formative years as a songwriter, was more significant to me than any words could express. He’d reached across the country amidst all that mad darkness of the time and gave me direction. His belief in me provided a light to walk through it all on a path which was our own. The process was invigorating, hopeful, and galvanizing. The world continued to burn with more intensity, distant at first, and then close as my own city. The way out of the mess of the world was tenuous at best and the words for this song came as a reflection of what it felt to be a part of a civilization that seemed every day to stumble mightily along the path towards coping, recovery, and healing. I dusted off my old desktop and loaded up my 2011 Cubase software and began working to build a way to cope through music, as so many of us in the community did.

“Stumbling” is the first song I completed during this time which I felt could carry me a little bit further through the darkness and, soon after, more songs came. It’s a time capsule for me looking back into that indescribable time, and ultimately the result of a gift of resilience born out of a moment of true friendship.

Seattle trio Warren Dunes remind us that there's plenty of time left in "Freestyle Day Spa," a soothing, psych-soaked, beach rock reverie off their second album 'Aquamarine' that comes to life with a joie de vivre attitude and a smoldering sound.

Thanks Obscure Sound for the great MSHVB writeup!

"The Prehistory EP is consistently strong throughout, from its anthemic rock stirring to quainter lushness."

Showcasing a memorable rock sound with a knack for climactic, textured build-ups, the Prehistory EP is the latest from Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band. The act was signed to Dead Oceans and active there from 2009 to 2012, and they went on an extended hiatus thereafter. Singer and writer Benjamin Verdoes...

About Aquamarine:

Songwriting-as-poetry is a well-worn trope—but the lyricism that Julia Massey crafts brings new weight back to that overused comparison. Fashioned with a careful economy of language, her bittersweet, surrealist meditations on the ephemeral nature of the human experience are presented with powerful, painterly language that goes straight for the heart.

Thematically, Aquamarine is loosely based on a journal Julia wrote while on a therapeutic mushroom trip through Carkeek Park in Seattle. The record grapples with the artist’s compulsion and purpose with their craft, and, as usual, the themes of death and rebirth are ever present. Befitting a record that grapples with the eternal, all of the songs are either directly or indirectly about water and the sea.

Aquamarine comes out May 17th on all streaming platforms
