Scenes from the CASS/CEBA/SIS/CCA Pre-Commencement Exercises Rehearsal last July 13, 2023.

ICYMI: During the pre-commencement rehearsals, the Dean of the College directly gives instruction to the student on how to receive the diploma and medal and to shake hands. Such a simple instruction but very meaningful as it symbolizes show of courtesy and recognizing that the student is participating in something larger than one's self. This might be the only time the Dean gives instruction individually to the students of the College.

JUNE ALUMNI FEATURE 🏳️‍🌈🎓

"The Iligan Safe Space is a community of LGBTQIA+ members who want to gather together because we have observed that there isn’t really a strong community or coalition (for us) here in Iligan City.

We want to forward the idea that we can make this sustainable. We can make our aspirations real by talking to each other and sharing our narratives. Our mantra is —there is healing in storytelling.

When it comes to success, as much as we rely on numbers as well, we’re already very much happy with how we were able to bring people together since we tend to be very much fragmented.

That’s where the idea of “brave space” comes in. Brave space allows us to embrace discomfort. That’s why thinking of a brave space is quite ahead. For now, we are going for a “safe space” in such a way that we need to feel a sense of security with each other first. As much as we think we are fighting for the same thing, we need to acknowledge how nuanced our struggles are."

Graduating students who have shown high academic performance, and will be conferred with Latin distinctions and those who excelled in the College extra-curricular activities, are awarded the College of Arts and Social Sciences Medal of Achievement.

The Obverse shows the logo of CASS with the name of the student and the award. The Ribbon is made of Langkit (a Meranaw word that as a verb means to embroider or to decorate with lace and as a noun refers to any woven strip of fabric used to enhance or design a malong).

There are many Langkit designs and for the CASS medal, the weavers call the design tiyaboro or tinaboro (from the Meranaw word boro meaning confine or keep and used in the past tense, means confined and kept).

The CASS Medal is a reminder to use knowledge gained and degree earned to protect one's self and others, to be free from pride and arrogance, and to be an instrument of peace.

The graduating students of the College of Arts and Social Sciences, the first batch of K-12 (Batch 2018) will receive the CASS Pin as a gift for having lived up to the expectations and principles of CASS "kakambal ng husay at talino, ang puso at konsensya" especially during this pandemic.

As former CASS Dean Prof. Rohane M. Derogongan shared during the Alay sa Graduates, all graduating students deserve a recognition. This is a gift for CASS Class of 2022.
